    LPT1 POrt to USB

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270 I am trying to connect to a HP Office Jet 6310 All-In-One Printer via a Belkin A,B,C,D Data Switch. I am coming off of the GX270 from the LPT1 port to the switch's LPT1 B side and from the I/O (LPT1) port on the switch to the printer with a LPT1 to USB cable to a USB A to B transgender adaptor. I cannot seem to get the GX270's LPT1 port to recognize the USB device to make it functional. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Um, the 6310 has an ethernet port. I'd sooner set that up than fiddle around with the lpt to usb thing.

    Just a suggestion.

i doubt this will work. i've never heard of LPT to USB adapters, so i guess that adapter of yours is a USB to LPT adapter (emulates a printer port on USB).
why not use its ethernet port?

      err... late.

My ethernet port is connected to DSL for fax use. But thank you! I have an Intel Pentium Dual CPU connected to the A port and I had to get it to recognize USB devices before it would work, but it is LPT to LPT. I cannot locate a command that would allow the LPT to recognize USB on the Dell.

Another nic is probably cheaper than a USB>lpt adapter.

You could probably get a USB device that emulates a parallel port. I don't think you can have parallel emulate USB without a LOT of work. The communication method is different (parallel vs serial) and the bandwidth isn't there.

The cable you have is probably flipped. The usb end is supposed to go into your computer and the parallel end to a device. Thats why you had to use the adapter. If you have a parallel switch and a USB printer they will not connect to each other period.

So get a hub / switch.
