External hard drive/cd rom enclosure-printer port interface recap power supply board

I going to modify the enclosure to except the new USB 3 interface
The 3.5 enclosure do not have internal switching power supplies and use a small switching wall wart power supply really

I need a cd rom drive for my new computer and do not want to use a 2.5 cd rom drives

The switching power supply in the old enclosure has nice heat sinks and has a cooling fan in the enclosure that is the main reason why I want to repurpose for this project

I will post some pictures of it when I get the usb 3 to IDE hard drive enclosure I will probably find a new use for this enclosure but right now I do not know what that is going to be

I have a IDE to usb 2 however it was back in 2002 and there seems to be no driver for or the device no longer working properly because when you hook up the device it shows that a device is hooked up but then it says that it has been disconnected and no further information is available

I think the name of the computer was Comp USA but I am not sure about the name unfortunately there is no brand name on these devices so I do not know who made them

I also have one that is from the same era and time frame and it will be the same thing but I do have have a current version of this either but these devices have there own switching power supplies and I will convert one of them first and how well this works

Here is a picture of the IDE to USB controller board

I have three different version of these
      IDE to usb A
      IDE to 1394a FireWire interface
      IDE to printer interface

The first two have the exact same switching power supply they are made by the same manufacturer
Which is the switching power supply board that is in the picture above I have not recapped the hole board yet I still have to do the secondary side of the circuit board this will happen probably tomorrow
The last one is a little different but basically the same layout

USB HDDs pretty much universally show up as mass storage devices and has a standardized driver for the most part. However there are a lot of crappy chipsets out there...

I think I may be blessed by Linux that has a lot of the quirky usb-storage devices addressed...

Yes that is what it comes up with but it only there for a second or two and then it disappears also the ic chip gets warm to the touch as well so this might be part of the issue as well

Well all three switching power supply boards have been recapped and ready to go when I get the parts that I ordered to go from IDE to USB cable
