    anyone still collect engineering samples?

i found a bunch of these and remember they were popular with collectors.
they were in daily use till now so are still useful.
    pair of tualatin-s 1266 and a pair of p3 933 slot 1.

Re: anyone still collect engineering samples?

@ KC8: I have a dual 370 board which officially accepts only Tualatins but I used two Coppermine 1000EB I owned: the bios complains about the cpus (it lacks Cmine CPU IDs), but the board electrically recognizes and supports them; only annoyance is I have to press F1 at every boot to acknowledge the presence of unsupported cpus and this prevents unattended reboots.
I never had nor tried ES chips: are your two Tualatin-S or normal not-SMP ones? Do you know in which board they were employed?

the ones i have are p3-s with 512 cache
if you can get a bios with updated microcode for cumines it may be fine.
they ran for several years in a tyan 230t.

            'll right: server Tualatins.

The board is an Asus TR-DLS customized for an HP Netserver TC3100: the Asus bios recognizes Cumines, the Hp one don't but I fear the differences between the original and customized boards may turn into troubles if I flash the Asus bios on mine. I.e. the Asus has a switch for setting the FSB while the HP lacks it and is all done by bios; the same for multiplier switch, clear cmos jumper (put into unused multiplier switch on the HP), SCSI controller (same manifacturer, same family, same socket but different chip) and other minor discrepances (e.g. proprietary connectors on the HP mobo).
I simply don't want to risk to lose the board: it runs steadly, the only three annoyances are the "wrong cpu" nag screen at boot, the HP proprietary board panel (I should solder a standard panel to have HDD led and power switch working) and an excessive latency when the bios change fans' rotations: it blocks the PCI bus for few ms and crashes every audio driver I tried on both Windows and Linux (only audio drivers, USB and IDE controllers are fine: don't ask me why).

I have one engineering sample CPU in my stash. The engineering sample I have is a slot 1 - Pentium III 800MHz/133 coppermine CPU.

Thoughts on Reverse Engineering 8FC8 suffix logic..
                    by nix30101
Greetings i am in the process of reverse engineering the bios logic for the 8FC8 suffix so far I have found most of the bios functions related to the suffix from a bios dump and I have verified inputs and outputs to test with plus the chartable for the 8FC8 suffix.

Elitebook 820 G3 engineering example: CMOS settings lost despite new cell
                    by i440bx
                    Hey there,

I got a HP Elitebook 820 G3 Engineering Sample Laptop and I want to use it. Besides the difficult things at the ES-BIOS I have a big problem by saving the main BIOS settings.

The laptop does not have a big battery because it was dead, but I already plugged in a new CMOS battery.

It takes about 5min without power and the BIOS settings are lost. Unfortunatly I dont understand why the BIOS settings are only saved with power connected and this is the reason why I registered here.

As written above, I plugged in a new CMOS cell and checked...

Reverse engineering of DoCreate DHJ567 handheld spot welder
                    by spleenharvester
                    Hello everyone

I attach a schematic and teardown photos for the DoCreate DHJ567 handheld spot welder. I bought this welder for temporary use while my supercapacitor welder was waiting for replacement parts. It cost only £24, though there is a screenless version available for £17.

Performance: The absolute maximum it can handle appears to be 0.15mm of pure nickel. Reliability was not great - welds were very inconsistent, ranging from weak attachment to burning through the strip. However, I was able to build a 5S2P pack without losing any cells. It's a bit difficult getting...

Reverse engineering of 18650 4-channel tester
                    by spleenharvester
                    Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

Engineering help - how does the charging circuit on this board work?
                    by repair-it
This board attaches to 2 12v batteries in tandum (Black/Red squares). There is a 24v power supply that attaches at the 2 pin molex connector (circled in red). I need help to determine which components run the charging circuit in an effort to determine a point of failure. There are multiple via's, making it difficult to trace the circuit. Nothing appears to be shorted but I wasn't able to fully test as I do not have 2 12v batteries available. My assumption is that the micro controller (red question mark) determines when to turn the charging circuit on & off. I'm pretty sure a regulator and...
