most probably you have a video card failure and most probably a gpu ball failure and that series of radeon video cards are known to fail very soon

It seems to me if it was the card it would rail on other pages and while gaming.

Depends on what pins get disconnected on the BGA when it heats up... I've had some odd behaviour from nVida chips when they do that... including losing the R / B signal but G is ok etc.

It's getting bad again so gonna do 2 things first buy a monitor with hdmi and dvi or vga. I figure since hdmi on the tv doesn't do it then maybe a monitor wont. If that doesn't work is there a possibility that the OS could be messed up?

I really don't think it's the card. It worked fine on my other box butt that was with xp.

            Re: Monitor goes black

OK I have a new monitor. Thing looks awesome ascetically but has a fairly wobbly mount. www.walmart.com/ip/AOC-I2476VWM/49802079

As you can see though it is only vga and hdmi so it doesn't really duplicate what I have now. What's the closest I can get?

The card has the following ports. One DVI says VGA not sure which it is.
            Dual-link DVI-I x 1
            DVI-D x 1
            HDMI 1.4a x 1
            Mini DisplayPort x 2

The adapters i have are a DVI-A to VGA that came with the card. I also have DVI-I to VGA and a DVI-D to HDMI that came with another ati card.

I put the chip pic in so you can see how much paste they put on these. Mine wasn't that bad but close.

              Re: Monitor goes black

Went VGA out of same port and made primary. So far I can't get it to do it. The other DVI port had the same results and black screens.

Update...Well I kept trying a page i know triggers it and new monitor is good. Old monitor crashes when moved to it. May try running it as vga to see if it crashes then although i think i have and it did.

Getting slight artifacts on the new one.

my experience with shity HDMI is any incompatability is far more likely to be the vsync rate than the resolution.

VGA is pretty adaptive,HDMI wants specific frequencys that it is programmed to work at.
a lot of HDMI monitors only work from 60-73Hz,
that's far less than you would normally feed into a CRT.

i used to see this a lot when lcd monitors first got popular - people would unplug the crt monitor and bin it, then plug the new lcd monitor in and get a black screen!

Not using HDMI for now. I have been on DVI. HDMI seems fine.

I know crt's can get the frequency up but at what resolution?

DVI-D = HDMI, just with a better connector.

frequency is not related to resolution.

Read through the thread. It's been a pain in my ass.

I've played with all settings. So far this one stays up though while old one crashes.

                        Re: Monitor goes black

Well new monitor is working perfectly hooked up with HDMI. Installed the drivers and apps that came with it. For a cheaper IPS this AOV is fancy. Unfortunately i have no clue what half the setting are.
Seems to prove the monitor was the problem and not the card. Still wonder what exactly it is though and why only some pages.

What is your guys thoughts on AOC build quality ,longevity and repair ability?

Back to the top. Been running this hanns g as a second monitor and it still behaves the same on vga. Digikey will kick it off and make it black out and freeze when searching for caps. Has to be some code on the pages it doesn't mesh with.

If i leave the browser hanging slightly in the other monitor it won't do it.
