    CRT displays.

I have a CRT monitor in my room for my homework computer. It's a Diamond View one, a 17" one to be precise, model 1770g.
There aren't any problems with it from what I can see. Image quality is nice etc.
But I have a feeling that this monitor is power hungry and I think it's also easting up my power bill because it's left on for hours during my work time.
How much power is this thing sucking out of my wall socket?

Also, would it be wise to go and buy an LCD and use that because it saves power and is clearer as well?. I tend to notice that after long periods of use, I get a mild headache which is concerning.

I was having a look at second hand 17" Dell branded LCDs and they are only $100 each which is a decent price. Sure they have been used, but I had a good look at them and the image quality is brilliant.... of course the price tag has a few dead pixels and case scratches.

    Thanks.

    Re: CRT displays.

Well... i went from my trusty old Eizo FlexScan F520 (17" CRT) to two 15" LCDs (cheap-ass Medion MD9383 i bought on ebay for 30€ each)

Eizo CRT: between 78 and 109Watt
both Medion LCDs: together max. 48Watt

so i doubled my desktop size and still save money on my electricity bill

for your headache... i've never had any problems with that when i set the screens refresh rate to at least 85Hz (the Eizo CRT supported up to 130Hz @ 1024x768 ; i used it with a rather odd screen resolution of 1152x864 or something @ 90Hz)

i still have that Eizo CRT here for testing and stuff like that and i recommend to keep at least 1 CRT if you're doing any PC service...

i first brought the eizo into the cellar as i didn't have any need for it (because of those 2 LCDs)..

well.. it's on my desk again..

    the reason is quite simple..

i got a PC in here for service. the owner used a 19" CRT at 1600x1200 @ 85Hz.

well.. those LCDs couldn't handle the resolution nor the refresh rate.. so i had to get the Eizo back on my desk again

gotta agree there. i loved the picture on my 19" CRTs, but if I set the refresh lower than 75Hz, it drove me nuts. (ok...even nuttier....)

I was told once that if you have a 17CRT, a 15" LCD would be about the same. Not sure if its true.......I have a 24" widescreen LCD.
