I just tried Wine for the first time and must say I am quite impressed. It's much faster than running Windows itself. If I'd known how fast it really was I'd have installed it a long time ago. There aren't many Windows based apps I want to use and this is perfect for them so far. Very speedy and very easy to install and to install Windows apps. I had no idea Wine was as good as it is. It certainly gets my thumbs up. I love it.

Eh, WINE is an acronym for "Wine Is Not an Emmulator"Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine_(software)
basically WINE is a "compatibility layer" that provides substitutes to the libraries and back-end processes that windows applications need to allow them to run on Linux. WINE does not actually execute code to simulate a Windows installation like an Emulator would, the windows applications you run are running at full speed on Linux.Comment

Re: Wine (Windows emulator for Linux) Thumbs Up!
Thanks, I understand. It works great for me. I won't call it an emulator anymore

If WINE was an emulator in the same sense as a console emulator, then there would be a lot of CPU overhead!ASRock B550 PG Velocita

Re: Wine (Windows emulator for Linux) Thumbs Up!
If you read the link to Wikipedia the vary last part says that Windows will search the registers for Wine and if it is there they will not continue with a Window's update.Last edited by keeney123; 12-21-2015, 01:40 PM.Comment

Re: Wine (Windows emulator for Linux) Thumbs Up!
Yeah that makes no sense... Wine is not Windows nor an emulator nor a virtual machine running Windows, so why would it need any windows updates in the first place?Comment

All Wine does is provide the Windows API under Linux. It does not emulate anything.Comment

Re: Wine (Windows emulator for Linux) Thumbs Up!
The thing I was saying is not if Windows Updates affect Wine. Windows updates affect other things like security. I was asking if Microsoft is scanning for Wine and then making a decision not to load their updates on ones computer just for spite?Comment

Re: Wine (Windows emulator for Linux) Thumbs Up!
they cant load shit, Linux does not run remote-access ports like windows for anybody to push stuff through.
and Wine is only envoked when you run a windows app, it's not running in the background anyway.Comment

Re: Wine (Windows emulator for Linux) Thumbs Up!
Let me ask you this; when one goes out to a Web Site can those Web sites check to see if a Security Windows update is installed and then deal with the request according to the answer?Comment

by japlyticIn a Beelink GTR mini PC, mine has an Intel AX200NGW WLAN module.
Tried (only with keyboard/mouse connected):- BIOS + database update
- Using latest Windows 11 image built with official image creation tool
- Previous setup version for Windows 11 installer
- Replacing SSD without a slow block (the previous SSD had a slow block with access time > 500 mS)
- TPM reset (worked to the point where DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOG error message is displayed briefly after the point of stalling)
- Disabling power to WLAN and LAN modules in BIOS (Advanced > AMD PBS > PCI Express Configuration)

this is a very strange Problem:
Notebook hang instantly on Boot. BIOS is accesable.
Windows: instant after showing "loading circle", even Windows Boot Stick hang instant (even without installed SSD/NVME )
Linux: instantly (if Linux Boot in leagacy Mode with log messages: Machine Check exception after 0.25 sec)
i have tried:
- only one RAM Stick, another working RAM, both RAM channel
- BIOS Flash to newest Version F.50, BIOS Reset
- Memtest86 hang instant at Test 2
- HP UEFI Diagnostic wont find... -
