No SSE2 - No YouTube with Linux!

I recently loaded Lubuntu 15.04 onto my ASUS A7N8X2 machine (Athlon XP 2400). I was surprised that YouTube crashed immediately. Turns out Adobe Flash no longer supports CPUs that don't have SSE2. You can go to the Mozilla page and enable HTML5 which gives you video, but the quality is crap.

Apparently there are "Extensions" that you can enable on an "about" page.

If anyone is still using socket A and has done this workaround, did it work and were the results worthwhile?

Re: No SSE2 - No YouTube with Linux!

I retired all my non-SSE2 machines including my AthlonXP 2200+
Found out about this SSE2 need while installing on Gentoo as it checks CPUflags during installation. I was using Flash 10.x for a while as a workaround but eventually just chucked the whole setup after upgrading to Core2 CPUs...

I loved those Athlon Xps... Too bad... But nowadays even a Pentium 4 3GHZ or more with Hyper Threading can't browse smoothly unless there is a GPU capable of hardware acceleration.

Success! Link http://www.linuxveda.com/2015/04/02/...firefox-linux/ shows you how to fix this.

Type about:config into the address bar, hit enter and follow the directions.
Toggling the media-fragmented fields caused my system to crash, so I reset those to false (default).

I can now browse youtube at 1900x1200 and the CPU usage is way down. Flash always showed 95% usage, HTML5 is 60%. Big improvement!!

                Why not?

i am not a PC power user. Most of what I do is browsing, no gaming. Most of the video I watch is not HD. If I want to do video streaming I can watch the big TV upstairs.

I have all kinds of hardware that meets my needs. I can use it or throw it out.
