    fixing a Weller gun

this one is 260/200 watts. The first of its problems is that the lights do not come on. One light is supposed to come on at 200 watts, then the other come on at 260. It used to function like that, but now neither light comes on at all - though the gun gets hot.

But here's a wrinkle: while I have had the gun open before, I cannot now get the case open anymore. The 3 screws come out, but I cannot unsnap the case to open it. It won't separate at the area where the two aluminum tubes emerge fron the gun. Is it possible that, with the long use in desoldering caps, that something melted in there and is now glueing it shut?

that would be pretty dissapointing for something that is meant to get hot..unless something moved into the wrong place last time you had it open.

i guess it is not under warranty now? if not then its gonna have to be forced open carefully to check what parts you need and what went wrong.
