Good it all stripped, gonna stick all non electric stuff in bath to give it all a good clean

Thank god I bug sprayed it, found 10+ dead spiders in the thing, quickly hovered up.

Touch screen glass needs sticking back down as most of it was very brittle. Taken apart, cleaned old glue and ordered some adhesive tape used on modern phones / tablets

Alright guys, got it up and running but have a small problem.

The screen on the right is green and has a line running down it, luckily though it just seems to be a loose / wobbly connector. So if I jiggle it a bit the monitor works fine, no line or green screen.

What's the best way to sort this as of coarse cant be having to jiggle it all the time.

Should I remove, clean and then reseat it and put some hot glue over it?

It looks like it originally had some tape across it which over time one end has peeled away.

Kapton tape or a blob of hot glue each side.

Bit of hot glue and a cleaning of contacts has sorted.

Unfortunately ran into a second problem of my own making. Broke a pin crimp thing connecting front panel board by pulling too vigorously.

Can anyone identify the crimp? Will see if I can pick up at maplins.

After a bit of googling seems to be a JST PHD Series terminal / crimp, problem being the tool to crimp it is few and far between and will cost me a bit to much.

Ive tried soldering it to the pin but is very wonky. Now trying to mod the header side of a USB 3.0 connector as the pitch looks about right plus has solder points on the pins so will have a good joint.

i crimp using long-nose pliers.
if you need jst stuff, rapid has a fair amount, and farnell does too.

USB mod has worked a treat, soldered the wires to the cut down usb header, hot glued and taped it up and is solid.

On another note can anyone provide any more info on this tuner?

that's a supercap, used for memory backup.
you can get them anywhere, sometimes called silver caps or double insulated caps.

that's the type, just check the lead spacing on the old one because you cant bend the leads on them.

btw, they are probably cheaper at farnell/cpc with free delivery.

and your tuner is analog, but it looks like you also have a few composite-video inputs there.

i dont know how high above the backplate the board is mounted,
but an old trick if it wont fit between the other parts, is to solder it on the other side!
DONT do it util you know you can put the board back!

btw, this bullshit is seriously bad design, putting a cap between a pair of linear regulators!!
