    IBM Netfinity woes

I have an old IBM Netfinity that I can't seem to get any OS to run right on:

Linuxes: DSL boots fine, all others kernel panic (I read that it's due to a change of the memory allocation in later kernels for the PIII Katmai that the netfinity doesn't like)

Windows Sever 2000: Installs fine, my NEC usb 2.0 cards don't work right (all but one aren't detected at all (hot swap light off), one shows up but gives a device instance error when something is connected to the card. The onboard USB works fine.

Windows Server 2003 Standard: Won't install, PCMCIA.sys corrupted during install disc loading. I tried three different downloads (one direct from microsoft no less) and two different DVD drives (plus the original CD drive), same result every time.

I did find what appeared to be bad RAM, which I removed... but even after that memtest86 seemed somewhat hit and miss.

Suggestions? Or do I have a really cool looking paperweight on my hands?

I got win2k to run on it (assuming its my old netfinity 7000), it just got wonky over time.... Did you replace the faulty RAM?

I did too (same unit), minus the fact I couldn't get the USB card I added to work right... they're 5V PCI slots too IIRC.

      I removed the faulty RAM.

use that Linux version that compiles everything for the hardware.
        i think it was Gentoo

The issue isn't booting the install, it's booting the live media needed to perform the install in the first place.

Given that there server 2003 drivers on IBM's site for the unit, I'm thinking it's cooked... oh well, I'll keep it as a collectible if nothing else. Not like these are super common.

gentoo has a commandline insall image that runs on a 486 and probably will work.

if not, i think they have an installer you run on a running Linux - maybe DSL / Puppy / vector etc will run it.

Will do at a later date. Too sore from surgery to mess with it right now.

KDL-60EX500. Comes on fine, sound is fine, backlights come on. Blank screen. Already tried reset POWER/VOL-. Anyone else have this problem? Possibly bad T-Con RUNTK4244ZZ or panel? Could main or power supply cause this? There were 2 blown 560u 35v on power going to backlights but they were still working fine. Thanks for your help.

Dell ATX PSU won’t start, but forcing it works fine?

Got a case of something new weird at work. There is an old 2nd gen Intel i3 in an old “Pizza box” shell that has a small form factor power supply. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures and model number off it.

Anyway, I get to work and get to look at this computer. Standby LED on the PSU is on, but the computer won't start. Hmm o.k. take the battery out of the main board try again, nothing. O.k. then… unplug the power supply from the main board and put in a full size ATX PSU (yeeeesss! Exact that blown Powerman IP that I fixed a while back), plug it in and the old...

RTX3090 working fine but fans not spinning
                  by emil_t
Hello guys. I have a problem with a PNY XLR8 GAMING RTX3090 graphics card. The problem is that it displays and works fine, but the fans don't spin at all. The problem occurred when someone else removed the fans in order to clean it and broke one of the fan connectors. He replaced it himself and after that, it wasn't working anymore. I guess he damaged something else in the process. What i have done so far: I found 2 capacitors next to the connector that were in a bad shape, he must have touched them with his tools - they weren't shorted, but i replaced them with similar ones from a similar card....

I have this TV set that I spent a long time fixing it.
I finally found a shorted SMD capacitor near the plug from the PS at the main board. It was shorting one of the main voltages (can't remember which one)
I removed that capacitor, and as it has another one in parallel, I left it with only one, checked it and it seemed to work fine. The solder near that capacitor was really delicate as I pulled apart one trace so I prefered to not mess much with it after I had to air solder one small thread of copper

I didn't use that TV much at that time. Now that I'm using it,...

I have a customer machine on my bench right now that's stumped all the techs, so I decided to come here for help.

                  The specs are:
                  MPG Z590 Gaming Carbon Wi-Fi (MS-7D06)
                  Intel core i9-10900kf
                  2x16gb Corsair Vengeance kit
BIOS ver is E7D06IMS.1B0, from 6/12/2023

The machine was brought in because it would not POST after a GPU upgrade from a GTX 1030 to an RTX 3070. The customer also brought in the original GTX 1030, as well as a GTX 1060 that the machine also wouldn't POST with.
I tested the 1060 and 3070 on my bench (ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming...
