Lol before you get too upset at my drive adapter you should know that this command failed again with the exact explanation on the internal sata port of my desktop. There is a different problem here by the looks of it.Comment

Anyway I issued the security erase which I thought didn't work because the drive stopped responding to even the commands it did before the erase but after reboot it was recognized by the bios. However since there was no OS on it I booted back into the Ubuntu live cd and installed Ubuntu only to find I was back in the same spot as before - no bios recognition.
Very strange.Comment

some of the "security" implemented on these DVRs is built like a Brick shit house.
I thought the content was simply encrypted with an "unknown" key making the contents useless except inside the box ?

SUCCESS! Or as Dubya might say, mission accomplished.
The kicker was in your last link. I wasn't imagining that when I rebooted the pc the bios would recognize it but when I powered off it was locked again. It was the PUIS - Power Up In Standby. Disabled that as directed and the drive was finally good.
Thanks for sticking it out, man. Really appreciate it.Comment

i had a backlog of 12,000 (yes, thousand) drives to be DOD wiped and surface scanned/SMART tested, so i worked with a buddy of mine to build a server just for doing that and have it all scripted.
he is an engineer for Comcastaway so i had him do the scripting and i did the hardware. i learned the bugs and strangenesses of every drive out there...
these WDs seem to have some strange quirks.... anyway, these drives do have modified firmware to track more like a DVD than an HDD, that is done to prevent lags in recorded video but causes some odd wear patterns, just a heads up.Last edited by goontron; 03-05-2015, 09:13 PM.Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

by federalhouseHi everyone,
I'm in need of assistance with a Dell Precision 5820 Tower. The BIOS is locked with "Dell Security Manager," preventing access to the HDD-1 hard drive.
**Background:**
I recently purchased this Dell Precision 5820 Tower from a recycler who salvages equipment from abandoned office spaces. The computer was left behind by its previous owner and was password locked. Given that it can run Windows 11, I saw this as an opportunity to upgrade my setup.

by tmcwA friend gave me his old PC case (with MB, and PSU), but no hard drive rails, he said he only used the 2.5" SSD spot inside, and used an external hard drive for data. He said that he'd have a look for the supplied rails, but I doubt he'll find them.
So I was wondering if case manufacturers used any type of standard 3.5" hard drive rail?
I'm used to the various Dell hard drive caddies or rails (and HP and Lenovo to a lesser extent), or el cheapo cases where you screw through the frame to fix the drive.
Now, the case is a CiT Gaming Case, and...-

so i just ass-u-med the drive's poor performance was due to it being an advanced format drive and i was using it on winxp. when i tried cloning my system disk to this wd re4 2tb drive and writing to it in linux, the write speed...-

by karto95Hello everyone,
I'm currently facing an issue with my Seagate hard drive that has a damaged logic board. I've obtained a replacement logic board from a donor hard drive, but unfortunately, I'm unable to recover the BIOS of the original board due to damaged firmware. I'm wondering if it's possible to make the hard drive work with this donor logic board.
I have a CH341A programmer, so I'm hoping that it can be useful in this situation. I've attached the BIOS file .bin of the donor board for reference.
If anyone has any suggestions or experience with this... - Loading...
