      Regarding the NF7's:

Almost all NF7 boards have good caps (Rubycon MBZ and ZL). But some of the earliest ones have cheap caps:
      http://www.overclockers.com.au/artic...?id=160074&P=2

As you can see, the Rev1.0 NF7 is to be avoided. But Rev1.2 has the good caps, and really you should go for 2.x to get faster FSB support. Conveniently, it looks like you can distinguish the rev1.0 by it's brown board color. All the others are orange as far as I know. This is all the more reason to avoid rev1.0 - they apparently got a new run of PCB's when they revised it, so the old one may have a problem with the trace layout. In any case, I bet rev1.0 is NOT the version that made these boards famous.

The only problem with these boards is the chipset fan always dies, and the "heatsink" is little more than a fan holder. If you plan to underclock then this probably isn't a big deal, otherwise replace the heatsink with a real one. Many people just remove the dead fan and don't have a problem, but I wouldn't do that at max FSB.

I installed a good number of NF7 v2.0 boards, always with a huge Zalman passive heat sink on the chipset. Only 1 has failed, and it was murded by a Bestec PSU. Pity. Great board, died a horrible death due to cheap-ass PSU.

What bums me today is the large number of negative comments I see on all the AMD 64 boards. I'd like to start using the big processors, but I see no end of grief commentary with all the various boards. Multiple DOAs, etc. I don't need that crap, so I stick with Socket 462 stuff until I'm forced out.

I popped off my northbridge HSF after the fan stopped. Luckily no damage to my NF7. I installed an old socket-7 HSF I had. Overkill, but the northbridge never gets above ambient temps.
          A great board.

I'm with bgavin....would like to move up to a Athlon 64 x2 Brisbane, with the way prices are falling. But what motherboard?

That's because they were cheap knock-off's of the real IceberQ fansinks made by Vantec, I replaced mine with one of those beauties and it lasted longer than I had the board, AFAIK it's still going strong 2 years after I installed it

Vantec IceberQ series chipset coolers Rock!

I've had chipset compatability issues with VIA K8T800 & Radeon 9xxx series AGP cards, and while the Asus K8VX S/E I own had it's integrated sound (AC'97) die off, the same chipset on the replacement Abit AV8-Pro has been nothing less than awesome!

            * shakes fist @ Asus *

I usually buy the final release motherboards rather than endure hiccups, this approach has seen me well served by the Abit Nf7-s Ultra400, & MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (nForce3 Ultra) platforms

If you end up going socket A still, the older Epox boards had cap issues, but the newer ones, including later Socket A boards, are fine. My 8RDA3I Pro, for example, is all Rubycon and Panasonic.
You know there's something wrong when you open up a PSU and are glad to find Teapos.
Why I don't buy cheap cases!

                List of compatible laptop motherboards
                by Deby

This is a list of compatible laptop motherboard information that I have been collecting for some time.
                And it's still ongoing.
Every time I come across information that a board is compatible with another, I write it down.
Anyone who wants to, can continue to expand the list.
Packed in the rar, is an excel table that has additional information.

ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING - M.2_2 port not working correctly with SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD
                by DynaxSC
                Hi,

I have an really very weired issue with ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING.

Some NVME (PCIe) SSD's are not working correctly in the second M.2 socket. An example of it is the SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD.
Some other NVME (I have only smaller ones) disk do work without any problem, also SAMSUNG disks, eg an MZVPV128HDGM-0000.

The behaviour is also really very strange, i.e.:
                • The disk shows always up in BIOS - so it is recognized, so far so good
                • POST-ing with this disk with fresh Windows 24H2 installation (done in the M.2_1 socket) in the M.2_2 socket
                ...

Possible to convert eMMC Socket to a micro SD Card socket?
                by Isabella91
I have seen many posts where the eMMC can be read via a SD card reader, however can the opposite be achieved?

Read/Write a Micro SD Card from an eMMC Socket.

I have a Motherboard with a Kingston BGA153 ball socket, using HS400 bus mode, which is 8bit, as Micro SD is usually 1bit or 4bit mode, I accept that a loss of speed in read/write will occur, but I would sill like to convert.

Theoretically speaking, Im thinking if I hard solder DAT0-3 from eMMC to SD Card Reader, this should force 4-bit mode, or only DAT0 to force 1-bit mode.

                Not to remove...

Acer AN515-57-577G JDIMM1 socket not working.
                by warsztat
Hello, Acer AN515-57-577G JDIMM1 socket does not work. GH51G LA-L181P, 2x DDR4 RAM, both good, both work well in JDIMM2, neither works in JDIMM1. The laptop displays BIOS, when the JDIMM2 socket is occupied, you can run Linux on USB, then everything seems to work ok, there is internet access and you can browse the contents of the 512 GB SSD in Windows, but starting Windows ends with an eternal spinning circle, maybe there are corrupted files. When the RAM is inserted into the JDIMM1 socket, the laptop starts but there is no image and the downloaded current does not change and the output is ~2.25A....

LGA 1700 Socket Replacement Tips & Tricks
                by AJ847.63e
                Hi All,

Just wanted to see if I can get some advice on techniques and equipment I should use to try replace the socket on a Gigabyte H610M h v2ddr4 I have.

I was planning on using a heat mat I have that's used for phone, tablet screens, as a base heater than use hot air with a square nozzle on top. Yes I should get a proper preheater but I'm not in the position to go spend 300+ bucks on something I will use every 6 months if I'm lucky. Next expense I need to get is a decent programmer like the RT809H but again it would get used infrequently so hard to justify.
