    quick vid card detection question

    on a video card if its not detected and bios beeps could the card itself be fried or could a capacitor be missing?


    like i booted up with a PCI card, and went to device manager to check if the AGP card was there and it wasnt

    Usually if you have both one is the primary, so in this case the PCI is the primary. It seems more like an issue with your motherboard or power supply (well, down the line at least) and you might want to check with a different AGP video card WITHOUT the PCI card.

      ... trust me all of my hardware is fine, i have 17 of these cards and ive been testing them on this system, i just wanted to know if a capacitor on the board would stop it from being detected.

      and the PCI has to be the primary as if you have the VGA cable in your AGP card it will not display a screen hence not being detected.

        not being detected could be a component missing yes. could also be a damaged trace or indeed any other damage to the circuit

        but to check for missing components you should get a magnifying glass and a light and visually inspect the board. if something is missing because it was torn off then its going to be obvious. if someone desoldered a component then there should be signs also. but if the solder pads are pristine and look straight from the factory then likely there was no component installed there in the first place.

          A capacitor could be there, but if damage were to occur (such as bumping it, cracking the lead, and bending it back), it will not work. But yeah, any component missing would prevent it from working. Not to be demeaning, but that's what the definition of 'missing' means.

            turns out the GPU was fried. so thats why the lines were on the screen, i tried to replace the SMDs but it didnt work oh well i tried.
