    Windows Vista Spyware.

    Hello Everyone,

    I have a PC with Windows Vista Ultimate on it and I have a bunch of spyware and all sorts of other junk in it. I want to remove this spyware but nearly all the programs I can find are only XP compatible.

    So far I have used:

    * Spy Doctor 5.0

    * Spywarebot

    * Zero Spyware LE.

    I used these programs to find out why my PC is so slow and they all found 80+ bits of spyware and malware. The only problem is that I can't delete the junk.

    Could anybody please help me find some free spyware removal software that works and is also Vista compatible?? It can be a trial version also, I just want to get rid of this dangerous junk on my PC.

    The most annoying bit is when I boot up my PC. As soon as it loads into the Windows Desktop, an IE7 window opens some wierd page. Can anyone help me get rid of that part too????

    I can't find the registry editor under Windows Vista Ultimate.

    Thanks.

          Anyway, some info, was this surfing using IE7 then I suppose? Or how did it get onto it?

                I installed Windows Vista Ultimate as an upgrade over Windows XP SP2 because I didn't want to lose any files etc.
                I'm pretty sure my XP did not have any spyware, malware etc. I tried Windows defender in Vista and that didn't help at all.
                The only thing that kinda worked was Kaspersky Trial antivirus, it detected a trojan in my computer?! Kaspersky got rid of the trojan so theres no IE7 browser that pops up when I log into Windows.

                But there is still spyware everywhere else....

                I'll try some software that other people have specified on this thread. I don't think Adaware will work since it is only XP compatible.

                I only bought this Windows Vista only because of all the news thats going around about top security and faster performance. So far it is all opposite to that.

                Thanks.

                  stevo- seems you found the secret about vista... it sucks!

                  You can sign up for the BETA of adaware 2007, which does support Vista. I had some issues with it on my system running XP, but that was an early release.

                        Hello Everyone,

                        I downloaded the BETA edition of Adaware 2007 and that worked very well. I also used Spybot Search and Destroy, it also worked well.

                        I think my PC is virus/trojan/spyware and malware free now. I'll see what new things will happen in the future when I use Vista.

                        Thanks.

                          Do yourself a favor, and learn how to use Ghost (and Bart-PE). Make a ghost image of your installed system in its uncontaminated state. When it gets trashed, you can easily restore it.

                              I am starting to notice that my Windows Vista PC is getting slower and slower in the past few weeks.
                              I checked for spyware and didn't find any spyware. I also did a virus scan with AVG antivirus and found nothing either.

                              I also moved to Firefox to reduce my chances of spyware.... and no, I don't have any porn on my PC .... I wouldn't even dare to even look up porn.
                              I don't download cracks or cracked software either. I have a feeling that it's something else.... maybe some parts of my Windows files are damaged or either my hardware isn't powerful enough for Vista Ultimate??

                              I remember that it was faster when I first installed Windows Vista.... I can't figure out why it's so slow now??.

                              I haven't got many applications installed either.... the only applications installed are the essentials such as the drivers and office applications.

                              I don't know If it has anything to do with my current system config either.... This is what my install of Windows Vista Ultimate currently runs on:

                              * Intel Pentium 4 w/HT 3Ghz (530J series)
                              * Intel DP965LTCK motherboard
                              * 1GB G-Skill DDRII 667MHz RAM (2X 512 in dual channel mode) ---- Could 1GB of RAM be the issue here??
                              * ATi Radeon X300SE 128MB PCIe graphics card ---- or maybe this one isn't enough for Vista??
                              * Thermaltake 430W PSU
                              * Pioneer DVR-109 DVDRW
                              * 200GB Seagate SATA HDD ---- It isn't a SATAII drive and doesn't have NCQ.... could that be a problem??

                              At the moment I don't where to start looking to fix the issues with the slow speed with Windows Vista.
                              I can't go back to XP either because Windows Vista ultimate cost me a lot of money when I purchased it on its first week of release.... I only bought it because of the very nice GUI interface. Apart from that it has caused me a lot of headaches.

                                  Your system looks fine so far.
                                  More RAM is never wrong, but 1GB DDRII should be enough. I have no idea how the X300 performs but I can tell for sure that your hardware ain't the culprit (if it ran smoothly at first like you said).

                                  I've never liked the idea of installing an OS over an old one. Do a clean install and everything should be fine, at least for a while.

                                  I don't have any experience yet how long it takes a Vista install to become ...err... crappy - fortunately I didn't have the urge to see what it's like.

                                    No its not you got Vista on there...latest run home to billyware still exists

                                    Ok OK joke over

                                    Counterspy although not free is cheap....spyware programs, none are perfect.

                                    What you may need to do is have a look at what craps running and what crap starts up

                                    also if you install de install stuff it just adds more crap to the registry.

                                    not so overly needed but a defrag might help

                                    also there some balanced and high performance setting..may just want to check its mode

                                    paging, however it works with vista may have problems

                                    Not sure were you find any of that with vista

                                    Oh and memory well I believe the sweet spot is 2GB.

                                    Since you say it was ok and now has slowed down its probably bloatware or settings and crap related that way...but Id whack an extra gig in if it was me anyway

                                    I had a chance to play with it a bit today and talk about slug on 512MB, only the home edition but what a dog....mind you this is the way they are selling these laptops.

                                        Yeah fresh install is usually the better way to go.

                                        also I like the idea fresh install
