Re: CD music CD failed?
Not all Verbatim discs are using original Mitsubishi AZO dye. Many are from OEMs like Prodisc, Daxon, CMC Magnetics, etc. Its easy recognize AZO discs as the dye color is blue, rather than greenish silver. Referring to the attachments, out of those 3 models of the same brand, only two are using original Mitsubishi AZO dye which are Blue Platinum Super AZO HG and Crystal Black Sonic AZO. The first one is ordinary run-of-the-mill CDR whose OEM was Daxon, which is much cheaper as well.I had a bunch of Verbatim CDRs (Azo/silvery colored reflector) that the top metal layer started rusting for whatever reason... some dark spots started going inwards from the edges. The inside tracks still read but the outside was no longer readable. Probably because the edge seal failed...
Just that I had several of them die this way, but not all of them suffered this fate.
Could be a problematic or defective drive. In other words, the CD burning side is malfunctioning...

Re: CD music CD failed?
Yes these failed Verbatim discs were deeply blue dyed. Will try to get a photo if I still have any. I threw most of the bad ones out. I do recall in the header it saying "Mitsubishi Chemical" on these discs.
The light green newer Verbatim stuff hasn't failed me yet but they're a LOT newer... I think the newer stuff had ATIP data that was pointing to some Indian company or something rather.Last edited by eccerr0r; 11-27-2013, 09:54 AM.Comment

Re: CD music CD failed?
Mitsubishi Chemical is just a brand name, and is the same company as Verbatim. Besides, Prodisc is the only other OEM that has used AZO dye (for CDRs). Another blue color dye is cyanine, which can degrade easily. Some early CDRs uses cyanine (includes those from Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Sony, etc). The AZO dye based discs that failed me were those Metal AZO ones. These Metal AZO were deep blue in color. However those Super AZO HG and Sonic AZO discs which were lighter blue in color has been solid, retaining data over the years with hardly any degradation at all. Anyway, I don't buy Verbatim as its too generic (like Sony, TDK, etc), and usually prefer to stick to original Mitsubishi brand and model instead (that way I know which were the ones using original Mitsubishi dye)...
That sounds like Moser Baer...

Good Afternoon fellas,
Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.
Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
- replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
- reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
- I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board
Question:

by keldeoIn my experience, I've seen failed Taiwan/Chinese caps, obviously as I'm sure all of us had. I've also seen the defective Nichicon and Chemi Con series. Even seen failed Rubycons (MBZ I think?) if they are exposed to a lot of stress and heat. I've never seen failed Panasonics until now! Not just one, but 3! Also in seemingly random locations on the motherboard. Next to the RAM and CPU, but not t part of the VRM. It felt like I spotted a Unicorn, so I had to make this post. Motherboard is a IPIBL-LA. OEM from HP.
Unfortunately, I do not know the history behind this PC, it also had...-

This machine came in with a no power complaint after a liquid spill. The only damage I found was on the two USB-C boards, so I replaced those, and the machine charges and fires up. However, if the internal LCD is connected to the logic board, when it boots, I will get a critical update failed warning and the only options are to shut down or try again - it's a loop. I am able to start up fine in safe boot. If I disconnect the internal LCD, I am able to boot normally to the OS. The customer doesn't want to invest any more money beyond what I already charged. Unfortunately, based on what I...11-21-2025, 01:12 PM

by ZarithyaHi all,
I have a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen that stopped booting after a failed BIOS update. There is no life from the machine when the power button is pressed, but when the charger is plugged in, the amber charging indicator turns on and the power button blinks three times. The battery does charge, eventually turning the amber light white. I've dumped the BIOS and tried to fix it (but I don't know what I'm doing or how to use Lenovo's update files in this way) and even attempted to overwrite it with other uploads I've found here to no avail. I've posted the dump in the request forum and... - Loading...
