A firmware update was available, but installing it didn't help. It would burn brand new DVDs perfect every time, but wouldn't burn ANY CDs properly.

Just that I had several of them die this way, but not all of them suffered this fate.
Not all Verbatim discs are using original Mitsubishi AZO dye. Many are from OEMs like Prodisc, Daxon, CMC Magnetics, etc. Its easy recognize AZO discs as the dye color is blue, rather than greenish silver. Referring to the attachments, out of those 3 models of the same brand, only two are using original Mitsubishi AZO dye which are Blue Platinum Super AZO HG and Crystal Black Sonic AZO. The first one is ordinary run-of-the-mill CDR whose OEM was Daxon, which is much cheaper as well.

Could be a problematic or defective drive. In other words, the CD burning side is malfunctioning...

Yes these failed Verbatim discs were deeply blue dyed. Will try to get a photo if I still have any. I threw most of the bad ones out. I do recall in the header it saying "Mitsubishi Chemical" on these discs.

The light green newer Verbatim stuff hasn't failed me yet but they're a LOT newer... I think the newer stuff had ATIP data that was pointing to some Indian company or something rather.

Mitsubishi Chemical is just a brand name, and is the same company as Verbatim. Besides, Prodisc is the only other OEM that has used AZO dye (for CDRs). Another blue color dye is cyanine, which can degrade easily. Some early CDRs uses cyanine (includes those from Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Sony, etc). The AZO dye based discs that failed me were those Metal AZO ones. These Metal AZO were deep blue in color. However those Super AZO HG and Sonic AZO discs which were lighter blue in color has been solid, retaining data over the years with hardly any degradation at all. Anyway, I don't buy Verbatim as its too generic (like Sony, TDK, etc), and usually prefer to stick to original Mitsubishi brand and model instead (that way I know which were the ones using original Mitsubishi dye)...

          That sounds like Moser Baer...

PS5 Disc Not Supported/ Disc Not Recognized Board Num: EDM-020
            by Junior††

            Good Afternoon fellas,

            Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.

Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
            - replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
            - reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
            - I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board

            Question:
            I...

            Dear members,
I have a problem with this machine that still I can't solve, I hope some of you can suggest me something.
I was the first one to open the machine and touch the mainboard, in fact the Lenovo seal was intact the first time that I unscrewed all the internal screws.
The ower told me that it was working very good until Windows kicked "something like a firmware update" (owner's words) then the system started acting weird.
When you try to start it, some seconds after having pressed the power button, Lenovo splashscreen appears, then after 1 second, in the...

Surface Laptop 1769 SSD Failed KUS040202M-B000
            by gurj1979
            Hey guys,

I've got a Surface Laptop 1769 (the nasty cloth type palmrest) which has a failed 512GB Samsung PM971 (KUS040202M-B000).
These are on BGA291, but I don't know which is equivalent to KUS040202M-B000.

AliExpress has this but it's expensive.

Can anyone help me find a reasonably prices equivalent which I can use as a replacement ?
Or which NVMe can I remove it from ?
