So, I WANT to use Linux, I WANT to stop using Windows.
But it never fucking works!
/endrant
Trying to get Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit running on my secondary PC.
Intel Celeron G540, 8GB RAM, Radeon HD 5770 1GB, Dual Dell 20" LCD.
It installs fine, but it's a bit laggy with the default X driver or whatever it's called.
So I went to Additional Drivers, selected the fglrx or whatever it's called. Rebooted, tried to login, I'm stuck at a blank desktop.
If I right click I get the menu, but that's all it will do.
PLEASE help me fix this... thank you.

I've been meaning to re install the OS, so now's as good of a time as ever. It's painful copying 20GB of stuff to a shitty old USB 2.0 external drive before I wipe my SSD and re-install.

Back in the old days of winservers, I cheated....to get vhost. Win2k A/S + apache made for a decent entry level or quickie server with the best of both worlds....IIS with FP extensions if needed and vhost for all that cheap shared hosting.
