Re: Trying to locate a 1 Megohm multiturn pot
Yeah, I understand that - it would need to have a portion of it "locked" with a pin to keep the whole thing from spinning. I may call them just to verify how it works.
@stj - the old one is worn out. I opened it up & cleaned it, but it is "ate away" at a spot on the carbon track causing a drop when it is rotated to that area....

Re: Trying to locate a 1 Megohm multiturn pot
I just came across this item -
I've never used one of these - how do they work? If I understand correctly, I can install one of these on a single turn pot shaft & this thing has a gear reduction giving me 10 turns on a single turn pot? Or am I all wet on this?

Re: Trying to locate a 1 Megohm multiturn pot
Longbow,
I didn't see anything on that site over 100K, unless I'm overlooking it. They seem to have the same stock as State Electronics.
This is on a Gelman Sciences Power Supply - Model 38520. It would be nice to get it functioning again, but it's not worth sinking a huge amount of money into, IMO.
Markings on pot -

Trying to locate a 1 Megohm multiturn pot
I'm working on an old Gelman Sciences Power Supply, and the voltage adjust pot is defective.
I cannot seem to find a multiturn 1 Meg pot anywhere...
This is a 10 turn/ 1 Meg pot, 1/4" shaft.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Re: Escort Head Unit Pre-Outs
What do you search for on ebay? I tried putting in a few of the names of those dx units and I didn't come up with many results......

Re: Escort Head Unit Pre-Outs
I wonder how good those really are. Kinda reminds me of the Pyramid/other brand radios/amps that were so popular years ago. The would advertise them at something like 500 watts (lol) and they all sounded like crap.
At any rate, I'm tempted by the cheap pricing. Too bad most of he models are sold out. For my needs I would need to have one w/ AM capability (gasp, I know). Guess I'll keep an eye on the site & order one when they become available.

Re: xbox 360 HDMI to VGA pinout
Yes, it is in the tv; we know that (I guess I should have posted that in my initial post)
Apparently this is a common problem with gamers, hdtv's, and hdmi input. most noticeable when using an xbox with a first person shooter game.
Honestly, I personally cannot notice any different or issues at all when compared to the previous tv, but the experienced gamer notices the lag and is complaining about it....

Re: xbox 360 HDMI to VGA pinout
Update - the HDMI to VGA cable solution was not a good one. The picture quality is quite unacceptable and the improvement in lag time is barely noticeable.
So for now we are going with the HDMI input and living with the lag. This is an expensive lesson to learn;
Unless you read a ton of reviews (and how do we really know how accurate they are?) how can one make a good decision on a LED HDTV that will not have this input lag situation...
It would appear that one the HDFury gadgets that I linked to earlier...

Re: xbox 360 HDMI to VGA pinout
We've been all through the xbox 360 settings as well, scaled it back to 720, etc. The xbox performed fine with the prev. 60" Sony LCD tv they had, which is something like a 2003 model. It's funny that when you buy the latest greatest thing you seem to always end up taking a step backwards in functionality....

Re: xbox 360 HDMI to VGA pinout
It's a real crap-can tv
Seiki SE60GY24 - They got a good price on it, but it ends there. The pic isn't really all that great, but is okay...I guess. The blacks aren't very crisp like I would prefer. And, as far as settings go, they are virtually non-existent; No "Game mode" setting. There is a "user" mode and we scaled everything back to almost zero and it had little effect. Toggled off any acceleration that we could find, basically dumbed it down as much as possible, which as I mentioned the settings...Last edited by katzcaps; 10-09-2014, 04:37 AM.

Re: xbox 360 HDMI to VGA pinout
Thanks for the info., guys. After more research I have come to realize that we need active circuitry. At this point we are looking at a gizmo, the HDFury.

Supposed to be popular with gamers who experience HDMI /input lag issues with the new LED tv's.Re: xbox 360 HDMI to VGA pinout<br /...o, the HDFury.

xbox 360 HDMI to VGA pinout
We want to attempt an xbox connection to a new tv using the vga input on the tv as a test to try to eliminate input lag that is occurring while using the component or HDMI input.
Does anyone have a good diagram for an xbox 360 HDMI to VGA pinout? I've searched online but cannot really find a good, easy to read pic.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: Also, can you make a direct connection with this method? I've read conflicting stories on the net that it will work fine, and other s saying that you need a special adapter with circuitry in it...Last edited by katzcaps; 10-08-2014, 11:30 AM.

AC Voltmeter?
Can you fellow techs explain the why/how of using an AC Voltmeter? I've read a bit about it on a few sites and I don't have a full grasp on it.
Thanks!

Re: Laptop keeps doing Startup Repair...
It does sound like a failing drive. Download Seatools or similar & run a scan before taking the time to do the factory recovery. If it passes, then I would do as RJARRRPCGP suggested.Re: Laptop keeps doing Startup Repair...

Re: Epson L210 Printer Waste tank resetter
You could try the Epson SSC Service utility. Even if the printer model is not listed in the "supported" list, it may still be successful in bringing it back to life. I've had decent results with this utility on a few unsupported models.

Re: DC Jack replacement - tips?
Easy removal for these multi pin jacks;
Simply snip away at the jack with cutters/appropriate tool, taking "bites" out of it until you are down to the legs.
At that point, apply flux to both sides of the board & unsolder the legs individually. A solder sucker or desoldering gun cleans the holes up nicely.
I've done many this way, it sure beats trying to heat gun it & pry it loose with pliers. Plus, you risk damage to the board by pulling the entire jack with pliers.
