    The Roach-top thread

    ok, my best friend mary-anne and her husband jason (also a friend...one of the few) are moving out of their parents house. Many years ago it became apparent that their mother and father cannot support themselfs, so they've lived there paying bills, and are finally moving out

    this place is a fucking mess. and its roach infested

    Jason made the mistake of not getting a case for his $2000 asus gaming laptop. They started piling all their stuff in the living room slowly ready to move out. Jason told me roaches 'might' have infested his top. I took the back plate off and jesus its full of them.

    so, i'm going to have to take it apart, inside a fairly large, plastic container, and use a vacumn hose to get them out, right its tied up inside a trash bag inside an igloo container.

    any ideas about killing those fuckers before I take it apart? I'd think a bug bomb vs circuits would be a bad idea

      What I did a long, long time ago when I had a Dell Latitude D505 that came from a roach infested home was I went out to the end of the yard, got lots of newspaper to make a nice mat to work on and also see any screws that would fall out and I opened it up out there. The Dell was still screwed up after the clean up... basically the CPU fan was always on high and CPU was always running at 600MHz instead of 1500MHz.

        jesus fucking christ. This was terrible. Its a BIG Asus ROG top and it had tons of hiding places. I'd say there was all together with the little ones 200+ roaches inside it. They stayed off the circut boards mostly, but the casing is filthy. Needs alcahol bath. and I still have to take the screen apart, i'm not sure if they got inside there. I havet seen anything running out of it so i'm not sure

        every time I would take for instance the USB board off, or any other external connector board, there would be nothing but a perfect square of about 20 little fuckers underneath. they got EVERYWHERE.

          I put the mb, mxm card (again this is a niiice $2000 asus rog), and plastic pieces and other pieces that could have hidden crevices inside (except the screen) a igloo with a bowl of 91% isoprobyl and tried to seal it tight. Hopefully not only disinfecting, but killing any little fuckers I missed

          I am kind of worried about the touchpad though, couldn't alcohol vapor hurt it?

            the bugs will die in the fumes but not sure about the eggs.
            last roachputer i got we just stuffed it in a bag and fogged with raid flying insect.
            they came out of the openings and died.edit..
            looks like they have been in there a while judging from all the shit on everything.
            may want to wash the boards with alcohol too.

                  well they sat in an igloo taped up with 91% isopropyl alcohol to kill off the rest but 2-3 survived, killed one when I was wiping the case and boards and started assembly. This shit (literally) will not wipe off, but I bet I at least disinfected it. Used latex gloves (3 sets). Its mostly together. Pretty badass top with a MXM video card. Its a g73jh. 4 ddr3 slots and a place for two hard drives. I'm thinking about changing my avatar after all this

                        well I got it all together and yaaayy it works. I'm just worried. These were not the large roaches, these were the small breed. All it takes is 1 or two to survive and BAM! $2000 roach motel again

                            I scrubbed it down with alcohol all I could. The only thing I didn't scrub down was inside the lcd screen, there was only like 3 roaches inside it

                            the rest of it (with the exception of the HDD, Ram, cd drive) sat in a duct tape sealed igloo with a bowl of 91% isoprobyl alcohol inside. My dad and I was never really sure if that would kill the eggs

                              Good to hear it works.

                              Now to get that roach that keeps walking in a figure 8 off my screen.

                                  Damn, that's nasty! Your friend better be be grateful to you!

                                  I've worked on a roach desktop before (my HP Netserver E800 from the Dumpster thread), but it wasn't anywhere near the level of this. All the roaches in it were dead and I don't think there were any eggs either. After working on that computer, I now no longer bring stuff home unless I open and inspect it first. If a friend wants me to fix their infested computer, I probably wouldn't even bring it home. Maybe work on it in the park or anywhere outside that is far away from my house, lol.

                                  Roaches are tough little creatures that are hard to get rid off, even if you have a clean house. Given how the wooden houses here in North America have hollow walls, it gives me the creeps to think what would happen if my house got infested. If they didn't shit everywhere like they do, I would have nothing against those boogers.

                                    I lived in Florida in the late 1980's, moving in with a friend who moved there a few years earlier. He had a brand new house, but it was infected with roaches that he brought with him from the apartment that he moved from.

                                    He accepted it as just part of living in Florida, I would not accept it. I used three different pesticides, rotating them. There was Dursban, Diazinon and a third one that started with M, but I forget the name (Malathion?). Since the roaches seemed mostly to live in the kitchen walls and cabinets, that is where I concentrated my efforts. I removed everything from the cabinets, and piled it in the center of the kitchen. I sprayed what I could, but not the dishes and stuff. I then sprayed the insides of the cabinets several times a week. I removed outlet and switch covers, to spray inside. I also removed some trim and base shoe so that I could spray inside the cracks. I also was sure to spray where the water/drain pipes came through the walls.

                                    My friend's brother also lived there with his wife and infant son. He complained that the chemicals may be bad for his child. I replied "Not as bad as the roaches!". I suggested they move out for a while, which they did. They came back after the roaches were killed.

                                    In the end, I did eliminate all of the roaches in the house. You do not have to accept roaches just because you live in a warm climate. Persistence is the key to eliminating them.

                                      well, it started to freeze, then shut off, now I get no charge light. He never said anything till it was in this condition. Now he brought it back and I see they're back. I must of missed an egg sack. damn this sucks. He'll probably need a new board

                                        my dad suggested filling the bag with CO2 and sealing it, i'm wondering if filling it with freon might be a permanent solution. Not sure if it would hurt the screen or not
