    Laptop fan noise

Just wondering... how loud should the CPU fan on my HP TC4200 tablet laptop be? It sounds like a hairdryer. Low speed fan sounds like a hair dryer and high speed fan sounds like a turbo charged hairdryer. I don't hear any worn bearing noises as I do on desktop PCs, but it's so noisy that it makes everyone in my class cringe when the fan spins up. Heat sink is clean as a whistle as well. Obviously the fan doesn't run all the time, just when it's under a bit of load and the like... but still it shouldn't sound like a hair dryer right...?
My other laptops Dell, Toshiba, etc are much quieter than this... I read on the net and found no complaints so I suppose HP didn't design the TC4200 to be as loud as a hair dryer... at least I think anyway.
    Time for a new fan...?

    How hot is the air?

Sounds like you have a fan control setting wrong in the BIOS. Is the BIOS up to date?

It's moderately warm, but not something I'd call burning hot. When i runs at full speed, the air is HOT!
There's an option in the BIOS called "Fan always on whilst plugged into AC", that's disabled obviously as I don't want the fan always on when on AC power. BIOS isn't the latest and I don't want to tinker around with it in case I brick the thing.
However, my brother did state (and I took notice) that the fan isn't loud in the task of blowing the air, but I think the motor is worn as it sounds like a car's differential whine! You can definitely hear a whine... something not common in fans!
I'm going to order a new fan tomorrow and see how it goes. After all, this was an ex-corporate laptop and when I got it, even the chassis was bent, and it didn't even close... shows how much it got abused!

Update: Got a replacement fan (second hand) from Laptop Aid in the USA through eBay. Received it yesterday and installed it today... no more noise! Looks like problem solved.

Yes to the fridge magnet but no to the sticky note pad.

Have a few magnets from them through my many orders with Laptop Aid. LOL

                    Hair dryer in water
                    by Cmat2l
                    Hello everyone!
I dropped a hair dryer in the water after using it. I pulled it out fast but it was still hot, plugged in the mains and switched off. Still in warranty but the shop I bought it is in another country. The local repair shops asked 50-60 eur for repair. The dryer cost 60 so I was thinking maybe there is smthng I could do to fix it my self. I took it apart but I reached the point that I cant understand what the problem might be. I dont have electronics knowledge. Just some basic electrical.

There are 3 leds that are blinking when is plugged in but it does...

Removing electrical noise introduced by fan
                    by tony359
                    Hi all,

I am working on a sound processor, it tends to overheat so I fitted a fan inside. The fan is connected to the +15V of the PSU via a DC-DC converter based on the LM2596 to reduce the voltage to around 10.5V.

Unfortunately the analogue circuitry is picking up the noise from the fan in two ways:
                    1. The fan is close to the analogue section, the motor itself gets into the outputs so I'll have to move it somewhere else
                    2. Even with the fan running outside of the case, there is still some noise which is clearly going back to the processor via power line....

Onkyo TX-SR805 noise in one channel
                    by MegaZAC
Surprisingly enough, this receiver doesn't have the DSP chip issue. The HDMI board does not get hot, and sound over HDMI works fine.

Regardless of the input, the right channel has noise that is clearly noticeable even on average volume level. The only cases when there's no noise is when VCR input is selected (some tracks on the board are damaged, maybe that's why), or if HDMI input is selected but nothing plugged into it. In all other cases, even when no input is connected I still have the noise.

There's some logic behind it. As soon as I select an input I get only left...

Philips HTS8000 home cinema noise problem
                    by courtcircuit
                    Hello

I have since a long time a Philips HTS8010S/01 which has been old but was doing the job.

Since a few days, it starts by making a weird "static" nois when switches on for a few seconds to a minute and then works like a charm.
Noise loudly outputs from the 3 channels, even if no signal is sent by the controler.DVD to the subwoofer/amp unit.

I was thinking of a soldering that was starting to be damaged and that was only doing the job after a few seconds of heating, most probbaly on the power board
                    Removed each of tyhe boards

Bosch Nexxt 500 dryer blinking start button - no start fix
                    by CapLeaker
My Bosch NEXXT 500 dryer quit today, press start nothing happens and the start button just keeps blinking. Not cool. Reset the dryer, same thing.
Even so the buttons feel good, my problem was the start button smd tactile switch on the PCB. Cleaned the switch with alcohol followed with Deoxit and the sucker runs like a champ again.
