    E2160 vs E6600

Dell Optiplex 755, mainly gonna be used for browsing and Minecraft.
Would the E6600 make it a lot faster than the currently in there E2160?
    More specs:
    -4GB DDR2
    -160GB HDD
    -Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit
    -ATI Radeon 4350 1GB PCI-Express
    Thanks!

    Re: E2160 vs E6600

Are you referring to the Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz or the Pentium E6600 3.06GHz?

Either one of the two E6600s would be a lot faster than your Pentium E2160, since they run at higher clock speeds, have more L2 cache, and have a higher FSB speed compared to the E2160. It would be well worth it, in my opinion, to upgrade if you can get either E6600 for cheap.

I used to have a Pentium E2180, and I found that CPU was slow running at the stock 2GHz clock speed.

        E2160 & E2180 are both Allendale.

It's the FSB & cache that matter, not the CPU clock.

The Allendale Pentium E2xxx processors lack both FSB and cache, running on a low 800MHz FSB and just 1MB of L2 cache. CPU clock speed is a little extra if you have it higher among the same processor series.

Both the Conroe Core 2 Duo and newer Wolfdale Pentium would outperform the old Allendale Pentiums.

                  The E2160 is more over-clockable, I think.

                        it's both, Single- and multiplayer.
The latter only works if you bought the game or have a "patched" client (which skips the login) though.
(and a server on hand which allows those versions to join)

Just keep in mind that it's a gigantic ressource hog (thanks to java), despite looking like New Zealand in Lego..

If you use the loader linked above, it will download the newest version once (might need to tick "force update"), and it'll work offline from then on.

If you decide to play it, the single most useful ressource for information would be http://minecraftwiki.net

A little sort-of playthrough video (from the very basics upwards)
                            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UdEF...h_e_se&list=SL

The above video(s) were recorded when minecraft was still in alpha (i.e. late 2010), so some stuff isn't available yet in the version they're playing (wolves for example are completely missing).
