Re: dell sx270 chipset heatsing problem

the chipset heatsink on these models is held on by two metal loops, which have a trigger if one pops off to do this. I took a loop off one a dead MB (they're all essentially the same part) and soldered it on, problem fixed. the system did have bad caps too and I replaced them while I had the MB out for the hell of it, but the guy did not complain about stability problems

the thermal paste dell uses becomes an adhesive over time and the northbridge heatsink on this box did not move even after the clip broke (popped off due to crap solder)

Yeah I've seen this multiple times - the little metal clip breaks off on one or both sides, and it gives a thermal error upon bootup.
Easy enough to fix either get a new heatsink or fix the clip.

in the worst case one could fashion a new clip out of a paperclip... just bend, cut, and sand (to get it down to bare steel, which wicks solder).

also replace the thermal compound, as the bubblegum pink crap is just like gum and just as useful...

i've tried this before and have had varying results, if you don't make the paperclip the perfect size, the heatsink will lean over and lose contact on half of it. salvage one off a bad mb, they're like ALL the same size, no idea why

If you heat it, it will likely become softer.
I was working on an old Shuttle PC last week that had that kind of thermal paste on the NB. Took the heatgun and blasted the NB heatsink for a few seconds just to get it hot enough to burn fingers. After this, the thermal paste became much softer and I was able to remove the NB heatsink.

yes it will soften when you heat it, BUT...if you heat and cool it, over and over, a few hundred times a year, it chemically changes and becomes adhesive. I think some of the components of the paste melt, form bonds with other components, and melt even more, cool, and do the same thing over and over

                  Dell 15R-5521 keyboard problem (KBC?)
                  by SDNarcia
Hello, I have a Dell 15R-5521, with the problem that the Ctrl, Alt, Shitf and Num Lock keys do not work, I tested the keyboard with a keyboard tester and it is functional, I also got another new keyboard and the computer has the same problem with the same keys. Check continuity between the ZIF connector from the keyboard to the KBC and all pins are correct. I cleaned the ZIF connector and the KBC and I still have the same problem. I reinstalled windows just in case, and it didn't work. I updated the BIOS to the latest version A16 and there were no changes.

                  As additional information,...

                  by Achille15
                  Hello everyone,
so, I have this laptop Dell Inspiron N5110 with a heating problem on both CPU (I7-2680qm) and GPU (GT 525m), I tried many solutions, like changing thermal paste every month, using thermal pads on CPU and GPU, even using thermal pads on CPU nearby coils; but nothing worked, just minutes after booting the laptop shuts itself down so I thought it might be a short problem, so I decided to check what's going on, so I went online and some tutorial (general one) said to check inductors in order to find the shorted circuit, after checking (CPU removed), I found the culprit to be...

Dell latitude e7470 not turn on .power buton on off and Run Power problem
                  by masoksian
                  Hi everyone,

I am dealing with the problem of turning on and off my Dell e7470 notebook.

The battery charge light is solid white, I press the button, the power indicator and the light on the button are solid for 1-2 seconds and immediately turn off.

The system does not turn on, there is no post.

I removed the RAMs and changed them, changed the battery, RTC battery, AC adapter, removed them and waited, tried again, it does not turn on.
The problem continues in the same way.
I tried to turn on the Fn key, nothing came to the screen....

Hello everyone, I wish you a happy day.

I have a Dell Latitude 7480 laptop that has a problem with freezing during the Windows loading process. If it manages to boot up, it becomes very slow and doesn't load anything from the desktop.
