    Brand new gear

Do you usually get your PC parts brand new? Second hand? Or get stuff with bad caps (or other repairable fault) and fix it?

Personally, I usually do the latter two, since I can rarely afford new hardware. The only new parts in my signature PC are the RAM and DVD Drive. My monitor was one I got from work for free with bad caps. It works fine after re-capping. My laptop came from fleabay with no OS or COA sticker.

I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Sometimes I buy a few things from Newegg (hard drives, motherboards, etc).
Usually get things for free or cheap from work...
And sometimes I buy brand new laptops...
Then again tons of stuff I have was bought broken and either fixed or combined with something else to make it sort of work good enough

          Re: Brand new gear

I usually buy second hand these days. I honestly don't see a point buying brand new when I can buy something a tad older that does the same job and save $$$.

            Re: Brand new gear

I almost always buy used stuff from my local recycler. I have bought socket 775 P4 motherboards complete with CPU & cooler , CPUs, SCSI drives, power supplies etc.

I have in the past acquired used motherboards off Ebay. I'll occasionally buy a Socket 939 mobo for recapping.

I have bought several "display model" LCD monitors from local resellers.

I have in the past acquired a collection of cases that I can swap parts in and out of.

About the only thing I buy new is DDR2 Ram, DVD burners, and, of course, caps.

I have a couple of first-gen Core 2 machines but seldom use them. They are just too quiet!

I prefer used but will buy new if I can't find it used.
I've been getting many stuff for free in the last few years (mostly very old stuff) so I haven't had to buy anything lately.

BEST 505 Vs Mechanic Brand Reballing Balls with Lead
                by Stanley1843
                Hello,
has anyone use these Brands of solder balls? The brand BEST writes on the label of the jar the specs of the solder balls instead of the Mechanic brand. I beleive that BEST brand must be more professional (in labeling at least) but I have never try one of them so I would like your opinion. By the way I hardly can I find the Mechanic brand in aliexpress (the only where I found was lead free solder balls) and on ebay these that I found are approximately15USD per jar. If you know any other trusted brand of solder balls please tell me.

Samsung UN65JU67ODFXZA Version TD01 Schematic and Parts List
                by Mark D
The TV is a Samsung UN65JU67ODFXZA Version TD01. I replaced the power source board and the TV is now working, but I decided to try and troubleshoot the old board to fix at the component level. Trying to get a schematic and a parts list has proven to be an issue. Trying on my own, I can't tell you how many times my Norton security has flagged sites as "malicious". I ordered a service manual from ServiceManuals.net, paid $16.99 and got 66 pages of everything BUT schematics and component parts list! Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Some of the surface mounted component parts...

Problem with the Logitech G27 gaming steering wheel gear lever
                by render1967
Hello! First, please excuse me if my English is not good enough because it is not my native language!
Now let me describe my specific problem. For two days, the gear lever on my Logitech G27 has shown the following defect. When switching in the game (for example ETS2) it often does not detect 1st, 3rd and 5th gear - in these positions it shows neutral or flashes between the specific gear and neutral (for example - 1st <> neutral). When I press the gear lever to the left or right while it is in a position, it still manages to guess the gear and engage. In addition, instead of rear...

                SVOD4 PCB pictures + parts
                by 2elw
Hey, I find it very absurd that the SVOD4 costs so much and has zero documentation. I had no other choice than to buy it to unlock ECs, if there was any documentation or firmware avalible I could've made it or something simmilar. Anyways here are some of the most important parts:

STM32H723VGT6 MCU - It's a microcontroller by STMicroelectronics and its the whole brain of the SVOD4. It has flash memory for the firmware which can be updated by the SVOD4 program. Its also powered by the AMS117 which converts 5v into 3.3V. 7€ on AliExpress.

                GW1N-UV9UG169C6/I5 FPGA - Its a...
