      there is none.

it is like ice cream: everybody has their favorite flavor. and some are lactose intolerant and prefer none.

My recommendation is don't use a big bloated pile of junk like Norton which is hard to uninstall unless you don't mind fiddling with the registry and where to look deleting keys. A couple AVG and Avast work just fine but don't have it running as a service hogging up resourses all the time. If you need to scan a partition or one file then open it and then close it so it's not wasting your ram and cpu. Why use it if not needed when you need it not all the time.

There is no reason to have it running all the time for eg a .jpg doesn't need to be scanned that you got in the mail but other things do like an .exe .com .bat of course.

The pay ones like nod32 work great but will still try to inject themselves as a service which can be put to manual in admin/services.

Too many 16 bit programs running error
                by televizora
After installing Java Runtime, I have some strange errors on some of my computers. Windows Explorer becomes unresponsive and then strange message pops up claiming that too many 16 bit programs are running.
There aren't any 16 bit programs on these computers. The OS is Windows 7 x86 SP1 fully updated. There aren't any 16 bit programs running, nor installed. No active instances of NTVDM or anything like this. Seems like it's a problem with UAC/consent.exe/ when trying to elevate the execution of certain programs. But the information about the issue is scarce. Is there anybody around here who...

The Best and Fastest BIOS Flasher for Modding Under $2
                by lapot2
Recently, the Raccoon Flash Explorer programmer has appeared.

It allows you to flash BIOS chips from any device without installing programs and drivers, and also very quickly make small changes without a long rewrite of the entire memory to change a few bytes.

Very easy to use and intuitive, even a housewife can handle it.

You can use absolutely any system binary file editor (HxD, WinHex, etc…) on any operating system, the possibilities are not limited by the ugly built-in editor like other programmers.

It has full cross-platform support, works...

                Fastest way to ATX cuttoff

I recently looking some video where guy BBQ motherboard.
                https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZLdN4mnNF9Y

Beside of that he purely assume that the PSU is faulty, and the motherboard is ok... I wonder is there some way to do faster response to stop deliver accumulated voltage from PSU (rather that panicaly unplug AC), and to immediately shutdown all of dedicated switcing PS on motherboard and put PSU back to standby state.

Is grounding power good PG good idea, because it is on output of PSU? Will that affect on futher generating...

acer XC-605 CH341A Programs Correctly but BIOS Still Won't Work
                by shuten
hi all, so i have an acer XC-605 desktop which i believe had a bad bios flash.
i setup an ssd for it and it didnt get recognized in the bios so i attempted a bios update with the provided gui from acers website (going from P11.A2 to P11.B4). i rebooted and it seemed the bios update was successful but when i turned off the pc, it would no longer turn on properly and gave me one long beep (fan goes on, maintains power but no display etc, seems to fail post).

i tried a bunch of stuff like reseating ram etc and tried to reflash from usb but since nothing worked i eventually just...

Tivo HD will not transfer files ....
                by SluggerB
Not sure where to post this, thought this might be the best place

                Tivo setup:
Tivo 1 - Tivo HD, Monthly service (ancient, over 10 years old)
Tivo 2 - Tivo HD, Monthly service (ancient, over 10 years old)
Tivo 3 - Tivo HD XL, eBay Tivo with Lifetime service (newer but still old)

Yes I am the idiot that paid monthly for all these years. I found a broken Tivo HD XL with lifetime service on eBay for $40 (Tivo 3), I bought it, it was a bad power supply, I re-capped it, good as new. So the plan was to cancel Tivo 1 and use Tivo 3 in it's stead. So I...
