    Re: antivirus update fuckups

More bad news for AVG fans. Today received a system that was protected by AVG (fully up to date)but could not effectively deal with the folowing:
    Infected with:
    1. Trojan Downloader Win32.Dyfuca.et
    2. Trojan Downloader Win 32.Murlo.de
    3. Trojan Backdoor Win 32.PPdoor.bo
    4. Trojan Spy Win 32. Delf.ig (three files)
    5. Trojan Win32. Agent.fd

A Kaspersky AV install fixed them all, without quarantine/ vault. By default Kaspersky offers the user the opportunity to fix by choice to delete or not. However under Settings for Realtime Protection and On-Demad Scan the user can select for the package to decide to automatically delete or disinfect as appropriate.

Yep. It usually does. If software is making it take a long time for it to log off, it ends up logging the following error message in the event log:

      Error

Windows cannot unload your registry file (or similar)

      Access is denied, build 2195

Then it bitches about access being denied to the registry.

The above error message don't occur with Windows XP. This is with Windows 2000.

Fixed: Lenovo P14s Gen 1 (type 20Y1, 20Y2) Laptop (ThinkPad) bricked by a withdrawn BIOS update (r1buj82w)
          by akwky
          Hi!
Went dumpster-diving and found a bricked Lenovo P14S in trash, few weeks earlier. Symptoms - no screen, no POST, no beep, just keyboard LEDs flashing on powerup. Mute button+LED was responding though, and the display self-test was still working (via the key combo Ctrl+Fn+Power held for some seconds, see the Service manual).

Incidentally, Windows 11 have recently started auto-flashing computer BIOS in our region. Even more suspiciously, Lenovo has released a BIOS update just few days before the PC was trashed. About a week later, the BIOS update image has been oficially marked...

z490-f gaming bricked after bios update
          by lordgeny
I had to assemble a PC with this Z490-F Gaming motherboard and an i7-1700K CPU. Upon the first boot, the CPU LED was red and flashing. I realized that I needed to update the BIOS. I didn't read the ASUS notice that said, "Before BIOS update, please download Intel ME update tool from ASUS support site, and update ME firmware to Version 14.1.53.1649V1.1 to ensure optimized system settings." I updated the BIOS without doing this, and everything seemed fine until the system performed an Intel ME update and shut down permanently. My attempts to reflash it were unsuccessful. Searching online,...

          by iMuhtaseb
this board suffered from a bad trackpad and bad keyboard after liquid damage; board was turning on no issues..
we've replaced the bad trackpad and bad keyboard no issues whatsoever.. during 2nd final checkup we booted to an external macOS and there started the critical update issue; it boots externally but to the internal SSD it shows critical update; tried Wi-Fi tried Ethernet tried Hotspot same thing..
One weird symptom is it takes too long to power on and show the Apple logo for some reason..

I've taken a look into the MLB and noticed tiny liquid around Q3100.. its...

          by al3m0di
Update bios EFCN58WW to EFCN59WW for solving The Connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the recommended AC adapter

          I have a Lenovo Legion 5 15imh05a device that I bought used online. It came with a 20V 8.5A 170W charger.

          The BIOS version is EFCN58WW.

When I turn on the device, it displays the message:
"The Connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the recommended AC adapter..."

The device rarely charges the battery, and even when it does, it doesn't show that it's charging.

          I've tried
