Dang it!! It was late and I didn't catch it, I ordered the 1800uF 6.3v 10mm MCZ Series instead of the 8mm. As long as there aren't any clearance problems and I just tweak the leads over a little to fit I'm thinking I'll be OK right???

Re: Does size matter?
GREAT!! I appreciate the response. I was 99% sure but I hate to go through the whole procedure just to have to re-do it. Thanks again.Comment

Re: Does size matter?
You'll get higher ripple suppression, lower ESR, and a longer MTBF, so yes, if you can fit thicker caps, do it!Comment

Re: Does size matter?
When you "tweak the leads" do it such that there is no pressure on the rubber bung from the leads both while bending and as installed.
If you pull against the rubber to bend,, or install them with sideways tension on the leads,, you may create a path for a leak.

Re: Does size matter?
And............. success!!
I only had one I had to leave a little tall to clear but it"ll be fine. I actually replaced this motherboard 8 months ago and then my son told me it was getting flakey again. Opened it up and 9 TK caps were bulging again. I"ve soldered stuff all my life but nothing as intricate as this. Damn those traces are close together!! Really glad I found this site. Ordered the caps from here and checked the tutorials to make sure there wasn't anything wierd I had to know. Thanks guys for the help!!Comment

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....-

by dragometinTV Model: Hitachi 40HYC42
Power Supply: 17IPS71
MainBoard: 17MB95M
Panel: VES400UNDS-2D-NO3
When the set came in it was dead. Fuse was open primary side and the power mosfet was shorted. So I ordered a new power supply. Now it turns on, only displays "Hitachi" and then power off red and blue led flashing.
I had to modify the 0ohm resistors in the led backlight of the new PS like the original power supply.
Is there any variants on 17IPS71 power supply's?

by jm1234Hi,
solder joints on heat sinks - how much do they matter? Could poor joints on heat sink cause issues if they are not properly joining to hot ground?
I'm looking at power source module of Panasonic plasma TV and I see many of these having visually poor quality, but could they matter? In general I would guess no, but I saw a video where someone was stressing out the importance of tightening the screws when fastening the power source board specifically for the ground to be connected properly.

by distiI'm trying to flash an HP Probook 450 G5 (2XY63EA) BIOS using Arduino.
It's the first time I try this procedure so maybe I'm missing something stupid.
I've been able to unsolder bios chip (Winbond W25Q128JV) and wire it up to Arduino.
I also dumped it succesfully (dump.bin).
Now I'm having a hard time trying to reflash it, because the bios file I downloaded from HP has the wrong size.
I downloaded bios from HP (https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp103...0/sp103710.exe).
When launched, the executable extracts a file (Q...-

I think it would be dumb to toss a "modern" motherboard just because a resistor got scraped off, so here I am. I am hoping to find the right schematic so I can see if the motherboard can live without 1 of 3 60B SMDs in series likely scratched off by the backplate of a PCI-E card install or removal. It could be related to a functionality that is not needed or critical, or it could fry anything I plug into it and power on. If I could find a replacement, I could likely pop in on the board, but if I don't need to, then screw it, I don't mind leaving something dark that doesn't matter....1 Photo
