OLD Socket 478 custom bracket + NEW generic cooler

I already posted this on vogons.
Its a 3d printed custom bracket for socket 478.
I used this AM4 bracket as a base design.
Its to be use with cheap generic clip based cpu cooler.

    Reason for doing this is:
    - Its hard to get/find a good copper base cooler. Even if you find one, the price is ....
    - New generic cooler is cheaper and can use bigger fan (less noise)

I tested the bracket with cheap chinese horizontal cooler + fan taken from CM hyper 212 evo.
The processor that I was using is P4 2.4Ghz prescott. I have but can't use the 3.2Ghz prescott because the motherboard (Biostar G31-M4) dont support processor with TDP over 95w.
There is a modded bios to bypass that, but I don't want to risk it.
I ran CPU-Z stress test for around 5-6 minutes.

Very nice mod but the question is does it fit in the computer case correctly

        what plastic?

I'd think PLA would not work well in heat and resin not strong enough?

I haven't try in the case yet, but I can't think of any reason for it not to fit except fot that horizontal cooler + 140mm fan. Vertical tower cooler should be fine.

            ABS.
Yes, PLA probably won't more so if using prescott.

you could probably upgrade the board for higher power cpu's
i see it is 3 phase with space for an extra cap & fet for each phase.

I have an old P4 3GHz HT 32-bit only. It overheats.
I'm too cheap to use anything but ZnO heat sink paste in it because I'm not sure what I'd use this P4 for since it's so slow... should I put in more expensive heat sink compound on it?

Too bad my other P4, a 3.4GHz HT 64-bit Prescott also is unstable, but probably MB issue.

That blue motherboard (Acorp 4PMMNL) is for testing and using for hotswap bios flashing (5v only plcc32).
It used to be faulty, keep beeping asking for ram. Replaced the faulty mosfet APM2055N with FDD8870 taken from dead P4M900-M4, problem solved... or not
It got a main problem, high side mosfets (I think) is very hot heating the surrounding area. Already replaced the mosfets, still the same.
Probably vrm driver ic (5093MTC 2Phase) problem or maybe its normal for that motherboard, I dunno.

I don't plan to really use it, since I already have the better/newer Biostar G31-M4.

That would have been perfect for G31-M4 if not for the 95W tdp limitation.
Its VRM mosfet is nikos P0903BDL and P0603BDL.

Its hard to find cheap S478 64-bit P4. The current price is
Its understandable since its very rare.

                        Socket 940/939 Cooler bracket failure
                        by ratdude747
Found some missing pieces (thumbscrews) to one of my retired rigs, my dual Opteron X2 Socket 940 rig, went to move it to replace them, and made an unfortunate discovery:

The freaking plastic heatsink bracket sheared off while sitting. Thank goodness that didn't happen when it was running!

I removed the thermal compound before shooting that... it wasn't until after that I figured out why the cooler came loose, right as I was about to apply fresh

I have some Dead/Disused socket 940 stuff floating around if I want the cheap way to...

Possible to convert eMMC Socket to a micro SD Card socket?
                        by Isabella91
I have seen many posts where the eMMC can be read via a SD card reader, however can the opposite be achieved?

Read/Write a Micro SD Card from an eMMC Socket.

I have a Motherboard with a Kingston BGA153 ball socket, using HS400 bus mode, which is 8bit, as Micro SD is usually 1bit or 4bit mode, I accept that a loss of speed in read/write will occur, but I would sill like to convert.

Theoretically speaking, Im thinking if I hard solder DAT0-3 from eMMC to SD Card Reader, this should force 4-bit mode, or only DAT0 to force 1-bit mode.

                        Not to remove...

Acer AN515-57-577G JDIMM1 socket not working.
                        by warsztat
Hello, Acer AN515-57-577G JDIMM1 socket does not work. GH51G LA-L181P, 2x DDR4 RAM, both good, both work well in JDIMM2, neither works in JDIMM1. The laptop displays BIOS, when the JDIMM2 socket is occupied, you can run Linux on USB, then everything seems to work ok, there is internet access and you can browse the contents of the 512 GB SSD in Windows, but starting Windows ends with an eternal spinning circle, maybe there are corrupted files. When the RAM is inserted into the JDIMM1 socket, the laptop starts but there is no image and the downloaded current does not change and the output is ~2.25A....

                        CPU socket replacement soldering profile
                        by Geomih
Hi All - I am hoping someone can help with some pointers (complete noob here!)

I have recently purchased a Scotle HR460 BGA reball machine (it's a bit old and I think the company no longer exists either), but as far as I can tell it is a competent and unmolested machine that should be good enough for my needs.
My biggest problem is that it came with no profiles, and I must re-create all of them from scratch, something that is very scary for someone that doesn't really know what they are doing.
The simple stuff like a small memory module isn't a big deal because there are
