    win7 home iso? can I get 10?

Well I think that I have a GTX660Ti that's dead but I think I should give it one last try with its original OS and drivers: win7 home premium. While I can't stomach using win* of any type (I'm 100% Linux these days) I think I have to give benefit of the doubt to drivers, etc.

So... I have the original CoA for Win7 home premium and it's an OEM license. And I have the whole computer that the GTX660Ti came in (it was reportedly working too), minus the original hard drive, what could I download and run the machine temporarily to verify the GTX660Ti works with Windows or not?

I suppose even if it does work in windows I can't see me rebooting to it to use it, but it would try to see what I can do to get Linux to work. The rest of the computer seems to work fine in Linux, just the darned video card boots up but hangs the machine under load.

Where could I get an Win7 home premium iso (generic, so I could use the key that I have)? Could I use another OEM branded ISO with a different key (my laptop also has win7 home pro, but it's a different brand).

If it's just for experimentation (testing a questionable GPU), just use the 'loader'.....and Pro...and not deal with all the hassle. For testing purposes, you could also run it not activated.

I'm probably 75% Linux now on machines I actually use.

As long as you have a product key if you have a install disk then you have 30 days to activate it or it just will not work anymore

      Or

You can find it at the Microsoft website and just make an iso image and you should be able to install it that way as well

Kinda worried that the drivers for the GTX660Ti won't work under 10... or will it?
Does MS offer win7 download anymore?

IIRC, their 'digital river' downloads for 7 ISO's have been gone since EOL.

Nvidia would have a driver that should work on 10, the card isn't that old....heck, there's probably an embedded driver for it with 10.

You can download win 7 home for free from following link.

              https://softcomputers.org/en/downloa...-home-premium/.

You can test this for 30 days without activation

Re: win7 home iso? can I get 10?

I think I got my Win7 Home OEM ISO (and a few others) from Archive.org. But there's other places too.

You could also do Win 10 Home without any license. It will just have a small watermark in the lower-right corner saying this version of Windows is not activated... and some visual customizations will be disabled. Not a big deal though, and still the OS is perfectly usable if you don't mind the watermark. The biggest downside to Win 10 Home is the forced updates and not really an easy way to disabled them like on Pro, IIRC.

My $0.02: if you're going to be doing a test/experimental install on a regular HDD not an SSD, stick to Windows 7... or even XP. Yes, nVidia does have drivers for XP for that card and they are fine. In fact, anything up to the GTX 900 series is supported on XP, IIRC. Why would anyone want an XP rig with such a powerful GPU, that is beyond me, as most software that needs these powerful GPUs doesn't usually support XP... though with some trickery and updated kernels (Windows unofficial "SP4" / extended support editions), I've heard it can run pretty much anything that Windows 7 can. Haven't tried it yet myself, but been meaning to look into this eventually. In any case, XP SP3 would probably be the quickest and most light-weight option... so long as the rest of the hardware on that system has drivers (that are easy to find) for XP. Otherwise, just grab any copy of 7 (doesn't have to be Home or OEM) if it's going to be a temp install. Unlike XP, 7 doesn't lock you out if you don't register it in 30 day. It just removes the desktop background image and changes it to a black screen, and also has a message in the lower-right corner to tell you that it's not activated.

I have the CoA for Windows 7 Home Premium, that should have the key to so called activate Win7, right? If I don't have to download 10 I sure won't...

Hmm... been thinking that I don't see this card ever working properly again IMHO, not sure if it's worth the effort to download...

I have a Dell OEM Win7 disc, with it I can install/upgrade Win10 and activate it. Any other disc will not work. Funny thing is that I have only Fujitsu and HP machines.

Re: win7 home iso? can I get 10?

well... there is a windows 7 enterprise sp1 live cd iso floating around the wayback machine. its great for testing newly put together computers. here is the link.

i tried it and lots of "period specific" win7 era software works fine on it despite some files and features being removed to make the live image smaller. i found lots of dx9 games work fine on it. if the game, requires a specific dx9 bi-monthly update dll, just put it in the system32 folder and it works fine.

mpc-hc and mpc-be both also work fine as well for video and music playback. however, dvd playback didnt work as it complained of quartz.dll being missing and required for dvd playback. so i just extracted that dll file from the ms directx 9c update from inside dxnt.cab and it worked! dvd playback 4tw!

blu-ray playback also worked but only in mpc-hc once i installed makemkv and enabled the on the fly blu-ray decryption support. no more copyright encryption nazis getting in the way of me enjoying my blu-ray movies! if it wasnt for software like these, no way i'd be buying any blu-ray discs with the encryption locking down stuff i bought and own tighter than a rat's ass. the movie industry should thank the makers of makemkv for boosting their blu-ray sales, not trying to sue their pants off!!

so better get it while it lasts as i heard on the news that the internet archive is being sued for widespread copyright infringement.

fucks - that site also hosts iso's for obsolete game consoles.
maybe they need to re-locate to a different jurisdiction.
"SeaLand" comes to mind, or the ship moored just outside of hongkong with a server farm on it.
