i see these often leaking and eating traces off boards.
just fixed a zenith tv where one of these leaked and ate a trace between the delay line and jungle causeing no video.
it had been to several shops and none caught it.
only reason the customer persued this at all is it having sentimental value.
oh and it had the typical dead zenith 2 year wonder crt.
put one from a lightning struck rca in it.
customer called later with a damm you message.she said now you get to fix the other set now that she saw what it should look like!
btw these caps are a clear blue almost turquoise color.

damn, i have 3 zenith tv's working great, 1 from 1985

it has started going to fuzzy black and white randomly though, a quick hit to the side or a shoe to the screen and it goes back to normal :P any idea what causes that?

the run of bad tubes started in 91.lg is still using them(lg bought the carcass of zenith)now just a purchased name.
your 85 is likely a late system 3 and bad solder joints are the most common issue.pull the 9-160 and look it over for bad joints.

Are the PC(M) a low ESR series? But my former school has about 8 Zenith TVs about 5y/o and not failed yet.

I looked through 2005, 2004, and 2003 Nichicon catalogs yesterday out of curiosity and couldn't find the series. Is it a mid- or late-90s series? That's so 2 hours ago.

iirc it is a low leakage high temp.
i ordered some from digikey last year for a repair of a logic board in a mill.
the customer was real fussy about exact parts so i ordered them.i would have used something comparable in another brand otherwise.told him they were known leakers and not to be surprised if it happened again.

My parents had a Zenith TV that finally died in 1999...it was 26 years old, it was dropped, slammed and had a generally rough life with us "savage monkey children" using and abusing it...

I think the PC(M) series have been in production since the 80s... An old Amstrad PC with a compact power supply had Nichicon PC(M) series capacitors leaking... can capacitors become leaky over time?

my grandparents bought their first color set in 64.i is a zenith.
it died 10 years later.they bought a early chromacolor 2 in 75.
i have done 2 minor repairs to it and after my grandother passed away my sister got the set.
it still plays like new.
i have the 64 and i repaired it.
original crt and looks like new.
it sat wrapped in plastic 25 years buried in the basement.
my neighbors asked who was making the neat retro tv?
they about fell over when i told them it is mostly original and made in 1964!
zenith is now nothing more than a purchased name stuck on crap.

Leaky and bulged caps may not be the root of problem.
Notice that light (or thick) coat of dust on everything?
They've just isolated a new fungus spore similar to toe nail rot.
It's airborn and will attack by crawling up the leg of the Electrolytic,
weakening the rubber seal to get at juice inside, and multiplying.
It could just be that all these boards have foot disease.
