Replacing caps with much higher voltage ones?

Hey guys, I'm wondering how good a idea it would be to replace 6.3v 2700uf caps with 16v 2200uf ones. I just got 4 dual p3 boards which have 6 bad caps a piece, and I have a stack of very old intel boards (440LX and EX) which have lots of 16v 2200uf caps on them. I'm sure 10v caps would work, but would 16v be too much? Thanks,

    James

these would be the donors right? consider that caps have a limited lifetime, getting more out of spec as they get older. on that basis it would not be recommended to use caps from old boards. personally if i was getting ready for action dual piii boards which could be excellent pcs if fast p3s were used, i would purchase new caps for the job. it is not recommended also to use old caps cos they are difficult to install with their short leads.

New caps and some used P3's would not be too expensive, and you'd more than likelly end up with a much better machine...

What make are the old boards BTW?

These are MSI 694D Pro v1.0s with promise raid. Pretty nice boards. I got one recapped last night with rubycons from some dead abits I have and its running really nicely so far with a couple celeron 500s in it. I should have better CPUs in a week or two. I dont really have anywhere to get good caps around here other than dead/old hardware, and shipping from the USA is really expensive. The old boards are totally generic. I pulled them out of customers machines I've upgraded. emachines/dell/etc.

I've got two of those 694d pros on my desk.

Replace ALL the caps. 22 of them. don't just replace the 6 that bulge first. Even the Teapo ones that don't look bulgy are dead. And keep in mind that C390 is backwards...

If you decide you don't need four of them, feel free to send them my way. I don't need more, but they're nice boards to have around.

(except I'm out of CPUs... heh)
