    Ceramic cap blown to pieces

Greetings. This is my first post so i hope im posting in the correct place. I have a TV Telefunken model no: TLED-26FHDP. Tv smoked so i opened it up and found a spot on the power board right next to the 220v in that was black and two legs left behind. After searching the interwebs i found a pic of the same board.
After looking at the pic i saw that it was a ceramic cap that blew to pieces.
The ceramic cap in question is the black mf72 bottom left. In the pic its MF72 and under 509. I found a slightly bigger one that is MF72 and under 4.7D13. Will this one i found work? And then also why would the ceramic cap have exploded? The fuse checks out good and few other items i tested out all seem good. Would it have damaged anything else?
Thanks in advance for any help....

Not a Cap. that's a NTC thermistor, a startup current limiter. They don't often fail without reason. Possibly something is pulling too much power or is shorted. When you bring that TV back up use a dim-bulb tester.

You have a MF72-5D9 which is 3 amps. The one you found is smaller, may work depending on the power rating of the TV.

EDIT: After going through the ratings of the TV, 65w/110v=0.6a. But, the one you found has higher resistance, so it may not work.

Re: Ceramic cap blown to pieces

Thank you for your reply. I am fairly new electronics... So the MF72-47D13 is the one i found and i see by the link you provided that is higher resistance. I will go and purchase the correct one. I have been spending hours on the web watching clips to see how to test out components, and have learned a great deal so far. I am going to test out all the components that i know how to test and see if anything stands out. Thank you once again for your reply and contributions it is really awesome having a guiding hand while learning.. Will also look into the dim-bulb tester and how to use and update once i get there..

          Samsung C32HG70 - Blown Ceramic Capacitor (CP813)

          Hi everyone,

I'm new to this, so I apologize for not providing enough details. Is there anything else I need to mention? I'm trying to learn more about electronic/board repairs and hopefully fix my own.

The only visible issue on my board is one capacitor, CP813, which appears to be labeled R 221k 2kV (possibly obsolete to B 221k 2kV now). My monitor hadn't shown any prior issues, although it is a few years old. Just before the capacitor popped, there was a high-pitched squeal for 2–3 seconds.

I don't see any other visible damage anywhere else on the board....

Is it possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue meter?
          by chth96
I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that

"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."

Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...

HP X360 convertible battery blown fuse error, not charging

          HP Modelnumber: 14-dh0061nb
This laptop had a shorted cap on a Vcore section. After replacement is works again. But there is still a battery issue.
The battery is HT03XL and with the built-in component test from HP, in the Power section, I get an error: Logic State: Calibration required (20), Charge state: Blown Fuse (42)
I have another same battery, also with error: Logic State: Very Weak (70), Charge state: Blown Fuse (42)
And a third battery TF03XL (looks identical) with error: Logic State: OK (0), Charge state: Blown Fuse (42)
All these 3 batteries are charging...

LG 47LB5DF blown power supply board
          by cmlewis89
          Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum. So my trusty 17-year-old LG 47" LCD recently died. As I was booting it up, I heard a hum followed by a loud bang, sounds of pieces flying around, and loss of power to the unit. Inspecting the PSU, I saw two obvious problems: a blown thermistor (bang + flung pieces) and a visibly bulging main cap. Inspecting as many components as I could with my Fluke MM, I diagnosed that the following components on the "hot side" of the board were also bad: one of the 2 main MOSFETs, main 8A fuse, small cap (25V 47uF) connected to main caps, and a blown...

Part selection for possible blown inductor on ASUS GX531-GW-AB76 laptop mobo
          by swerg
          Hey everyone,

I'm a novice trying to repair my laptop. The LCD screen has an image, but no LED backlight for the image. It also produces an image when connected to an external monitor.
I have found what I believe to be a blown inductor labeled "L4502" and "120 Ohm" in the schematics (zoomed in image, blue arrow to blown component). I have included an image of the general area of the mobo and an excerpt from the schematics as well.
I am having trouble selecting a replacement component, which I believe to be a 120 Ohm ferrite bead, from the components...
