    Replacement question

Hello, This is my first repair and first time soldering. I bought a kit for replacing some capacitors in my LCD monitor. All was going smoothly until this question popped up. I am replacing a 10uF 50v but the new ones to choose from are a 22uF 50v, and a 1uF 50v. Are any of these compatible? Thanks for any help. (see photo)

    Re: Replacement question

well you cant go down, the 22uf *may* work - you didnt give any detail about where it's going.

btw, not much of a "kit" if it has different parts and no instructions!

      Re: Replacement question

Thanks for the reply. Long story short I ended up just re-soldering the old one back on since it wasn't bad and replaced the ones that I knew would work. Now my monitor works like new!

I agree, I wish there were more instructions with the kit since it came with extra caps and I'm sure they sent me the one for the different model (after carefully selecting the correct one to purchase). It was for a power board on a Samsung Syncmaster 205bw. The listing is here

The specific cap in question is the smallest one on the board - Does anyone know what it does? Here is a picture with it circled: http://imgur.com/a/uLtrx

        Re: Replacement question

samsung probably sold the monitor with more than one psu.

that's a startup-cap used to kickstart the controller when you connect the power.
        22uf would probably work there.

Buying a "capacitor kit" is a good starting place but as you gain experience you will learn how to select and purchase your own as the kits seldom tell who made the capacitors and some other important parameters. To select your own, you soon realize manufacturers have different types they call a Series. Take a look here: http://www.mouser.com/search/refine.aspx?N=12013592 By using the Filters "Enable Smart Filtering" you can quickly narrow down the available choices. When you run into a parameter you don't understand, google it to broaden your knowledge base. With a little practice you will eventually be able to know exactly what to order just by looking at the old existing parts. Be advised electrolytics have a finite life so it is advisable to replace all the capacitors so they'll all be of the same age.

A2338 Screen replacement - Clarification needed. What do you actually loose when replacing the screen with OEM Pulls?
            by AJ847.63e
            Hi All,

Just wanted to get some clarification on replacing screens on M series machines (M1,M2,M3,M1pro,M2pro,M3pro) as there is so much conflicting information out there. Some say even when using OEM pulls you lose True Tone and only that, others say you lose that and webcam, others say you lose those two and also the lid sensor will not work, others say you lose nothing as long as you use OEM pulls.
So, which one is it actually? Using original OEM pulls. That seems to be what has caused the confusion, people using cheap aftermarket than being surprised when it does not work...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

            Assuming...

Macbook Air M2 A2681 Kernel panics after screen replacement
            by reformatt
Just had a customer bring in a M2 MBA A2681 that had had a screen replacement in April at another repairer. Since then, she has been getting intermittent kernel panics. It's an aftermarket screen, and of course it fails in diagnostics as the calibration hasn't been done. The error in the panic log is "No device added after powering on the rails".

It seems the original repairer has swapped the board and the screen to other MAC's, and said that it isn't a screen issue. From what I understand, by doing a quick search on Google, this is in fact a screen issue. The panic relates...

            Allen&Heath XONE92 DJ mixer repair
            by JohnsonJ
            Hello everyone.

I'm having issues with my DJ mixer, and after taking it apart and checking everything out, it seems that I need to replace 2 rotary potentiometers for the filter, and that the PSU has some caps burned. Hopefully these 2 fixes will solve my issues.

The potentiometers I will just replace (hopefully the repairman I spoke with will indeed send me the spares, in case he doesn't, I'll update here if we can find a suitable replacement), but for the PSU caps I'd kindly ask you forum members, if anyone could help guide me in the right direction. I'm having difficulty...
