    bi-polar electrolytic vs polyester?

i have a bit of test gear with a 4" crt.
it uses a bipolar cap to couple the scancoil to ground.

any experts in old analog stuff think it is safe to use a polyester box instead?
    will it work?

I'm no expert but if it has a high enough voltage rating I suppose it would work and not blow up or anything.

But, they may be counting on some property of an electrolytic for proper operation, so it might work but your picture might be wrong.

I had no problem with replacing bi-polar horizontal deflection yoke coupling electrolytic capacitors with polyester ones.
But size may be an issue.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

        size is no issue,
that's exactly what i wanted to hear.

        a couple of questions.
        did you match the uf,
and did the difference in esr cause the width of the image to shrink/enlarge?

because i'v got no width coil on this monitor - so it may be better if i match the esr rather than the uf.

Why not just get another bipolar electrolytic? They are very easy and cheap to buy.

nor do i want to wait till i need to spend that much on other stuff.
