    Swollen UCC KZG

I am beginning to mistrust these UCCs.

Foxconn motherboard with Ruby's along the CPU row!

Perhaps UCC is having a bad run of KZGs ala Nichicon's infamous HM/HN?

I'll probably be the only person going to SteamOS once it gets out of beta (ha ha.)

      Re: Swollen UCC KZG

It's possible; even the best brands fail from time to time. Nothing is perfect, even Rubycon has been known to vent occasionally...

However, ANY cap will vent if exposed to extreme temperatures, or connected incorrectly. Reverse the polarity, or put too high a voltage into it, and it'll blow. Likewise, if the temperature at that point is too high, it'll boil the electrolyte and pop goes your cap.

Could it have been connected up wrong? I remember a design flaw on a certain motherboard where one capacitor was put in backwards! Also check the temperature in that particular area of the case. If it's approaching the temperature printed on the cap, that's the reason it blew.
You know there's something wrong when you open your PC and it has vented Rubycons...

it should blow very quickly if so. Like during testing perhaps.

are you talking about an msi board referenced here? that was an error in the pcb markings found during recapping. not a capacitor being installed at the factory backwards.

AcuRite 5 in 1 temperature sensor replacement repair
          by CapLeaker
          Got a new victim:

AcuRite 5 in 1 Iris outdoor weather station not updating the temperature / humidity anymore. The original sensor is a SHT21. Also there are identical other sensor manufacturers. I chose the HTU21D to replace the original SHT21. Both have identical specs. I've had two failure modes with these sensors.
A: outside temp stuck at -40? It's cold here at times in Canada, but not that cold!
B: stuck at some temperature and maybe updating once in 12 hrs or so.

Easy solution is to go to AcuRite website and purchase the sensor. Right?...

Temperature to remove chips from motherboard
          by asdas09
What temperature with the heat gun should be use to remove large and small chips from the laptop and mobilephones motherboard? My problem is that the chips not easily remove from the motherboard, example 380°C degrees. I don't know if there is a difference with the devices that the temperature is not stable with them even it shows the right temperature, what should it be? I don't know if I should use higher temperature but the risk of destroying other components?

I have device Sugon 202. I'm used also normal flux and rosin flux.

          ISL95880HRTZ desoldering temperature
          by Dreigas
          Hello,

I bought from China ISL95880HRTZ (3+1+1 Voltage Regulator with Expanded ICCMAX Register Range Supporting IMVP8 CFL/CNL CPUs) chip, which I think is not the original one, but anyway, I tried to resoldering it with a 380C hot air station. Seems soldering is pretty good, but the laptop doesn't work (it worked before, but still had some problems with power delivery).
Is there any big chance, that they sent me two fake ISL95880HRTZ chips or did I just use too big temperature for desoldering? I will try with another chip, but I can't find any info about the maximum desoldering...

          9V relay temperature 40C
          by jm1234
Hi, I'm seeing one 9V relay having temperature 40C on its 9V (primary) side. Does that seem right? I switched 2 relays on that board and the temperature was the same (on the same position), so I'm sure it's not a faulty relay. I measured voltage on that relay and it was 9.5V DC, so that looks good. I don't see any other relay on that board having that kind of temperature and they have 9V on them too.
I thought maybe the transistor that is switching this relay keeps switching on/off, so I also checked for AC and there was almost none: 0.3V using mV range. No steady frequency was shown, but...

Repair knowledge for -55c CPU temperature on AMD Ryzen CPUs in bios, the AMD Sideband temperature sensor interface (SB-TSI)
          by Windows8RTMUser
Recently I came across an x570 Aorus Elite where the temperature in bios was reporting -55c, i had checked the CPU_TEMP line connected to the IT8688

In my particular case, the SIC line going to the X570 chipset (PM_SIC) was shorted to ground, so far disconnecting the 0 ohm resistors connecting APU_SID and APU_SIC to the chipset has fixed my -55c issue, it seems like -55c is the fallback reading for CPU_TEMP which is just pulled up to VREF on most gigabyte motherboards

I wanted to post this as even the ever-reliable vlab forum was stumped on this issue
