    Samxon: good or bad?

So I watching a teardown video on a phillips LED bulb here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWKAub54sLU

Notice very clearly one of the big caps is made by samxon (and an unknown temperature rating)
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't samxon kind of "marginal"?
I have a later revision of that bulb and the base part gets to nearly 80c after a few hours of run time. It seems like that might be a candidate for early failure?

    What do you think?

I would call the 'middle grade'. They are not top-end like Nichicon, Rubycon, or Panasonic by any means, but they will typically get your device through its useful lifetime.

      OK
Well these are suppose to be rated at 25K hours, but I kind of doubt it

It depends on the series, too. The GF and GL series are known to be problematic, and are down there with CapXon and Fuhjyyu. Some of the others (GD, GC and RS series for instance), aren't as bad.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

I haven't read the fine print, but a lot of light bulbs are rated for X years at Y hours per day. That might be more important for LEDs.

That would be really annoying to have a duty cycle on your lightbulbs.

By coincidence, I just ran into this article:
            http://www.edn.com/design/components...citor-pitfalls

Guess polymer caps aren't in the running for these devices, at these price points - too bad.

Polymer caps also have a rated lifespan.

This is concerning. Especially with incandescent bulbs being banned
I guess we will find out its real life span but I am betting it won't be as much as claimed at 80C case temp
