i have tested the above capacitor with my esr meter,and its showing 0.00 ohms esr, does this indicate a faulty cap, from what i have seen the lower the esr the better.

Generally, when capacitors fail, the ESR goes up. So, that one is probably good. 0.00 just means that it's lower than your meter can measure.Comment

yes. try lexwalker advice. maybe just the esr meter couldn't measure it or that is shorted caps. try to measure this caps with lower ohms scale on your meter. if shorted the ohms reading will be same as this esr meter value, just like when you put your meter probes short together."There is no shortcut to be successful. ive checked the spec on my peak atlas esr 60 meter,and it reads from 0.01Ω to 20.0Ω. i will test it tommorow with my multimeter on ohms range.Last edited by shaunbt123; 02-02-2014, 03:58 PM.Comment

first of all: i'm a (motivated) newbie, so please forgive me any stupid question i may or may not ask
i'm currently repairing a projector: Epson EB-U42 that doesn't start (no lights, nothing).
what i've found so far:
- the PSU does its job and supplies 12V to the mainboard via the connector.
- shortly thereafter, there is a mosfet (TS420-600B) where i can test 12V on the one side (in the data sheet this side is called Anode), Gate 0V, Kathode shorted to ground
- not far away, there's the first cap with a resistance of 0.7 ohms.... -
Hi all! A bit of an interesting and unusual problem: as the the title suggests I have a Hisense H50N5300UK that reboots when showing fullscreen solid red images (and some other solid colours, but red generally causes the issue the fastest). I first came across the problem assuming it was an intermittent issue, but later lucked into finding out that a title sequence of a show I watch happened to trigger the reboot.
What happens:- TV appears to operate normally, for an indefinite amount of time until a problem image appears

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.
I started on the ACER:
Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.
I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap... -

Unable to find schematic diagram .
As i inject Adaptor power board starts its self without pressing power switch
observed when, on 3.3 volt, 5 volt & 1.8 volts present
No power at v-core coils (3 coils) Value Ohms reading 2 coils showing 9.4 Ohms & 9.2 Ohms ,one showing 32 Ohms
no power at coil ,19 volt present PJP8601 entering pin 2345 (chip no BCLEXS total 20 pin
battery is also not charging
if i try to force power off turns OFF ,turns of after 15 seconds than on by itself
