asus a8v recapped but still hangs on boot

previously, i posted about my asus a8v which had the following caps:

    4 x 1000uF 16V 0.018 Ohms 1870mA Nichicon HM(M) A0506 8mm(Ø) x 20mm(H) @ CPU VRM In Area
    6 x 1500uF 6.3V 0.021 Ohms 1870mA Nippon Chemicon KZG 8mm(Ø) x 20mm(H) @ CPU VRM Out Area
    20 x 820uF 6.3V 0.030 Ohms 1140mA Panasonic FJ 8mm(Ø) x 12mm(H) @ NB Area and AGP/PCI Slot Areas
    9 x 100uF 16V Nichicon VZ(M) A0507 5mm(Ø) x 12mm(H) @ Onboard Sound Chip Area and Fan Headers

i recapped the KZG with panasonic FL but im still getting boot freezes. windows xp just freezes after 15 secs into the boot logo while linux ubuntu throws a kernal panic saying the cpu context is bad.

does this mean the niccy HM i have is also still bad from the 2002-2004 fiasco? i dont think this error is caused by bad FJs filters on the minor rails? bought this board second hand so dont know if the FJs were subject to heavy ripple from a crappy psu from the previous owner.

if the HMs are indeed bad, are there any tricks to stuff a 10mm cap in there? as i am unable to find any 8mm 16v caps at my place. i am also unable to order anything online. only one that i can find is a 10mm 1500uF 16v panny fj.

These caps may be suspect. IIRC, some members have had issues with the '05 date codes. You can replace them with the same HM. The newer HM's have not had the issues.

I don't see an issue with the FJ's and VZ's. They are very unlikely to be bad.

Also, I would check the caps in your power supply. What brand/series/model power supply do you have?

Have you checked the CMOS battery? Did you remove the CPU, RAM, and battery when you replaced the caps?
Stupidity should be a crime, especially for drivers. I have NO patience for them.

Actually VZ "could" be problem (general purpose cap, with TOO HIGH ESR, higher than many other GP caps), if it (directly) sits on 3.3V rail or 5V rail, (especially) near ATX connector...

        .
I would check the Vcore and make sure the core clock isn't set too high in the BIOS.

Looks like you're getting symptoms of CPU core instability.

Looks like you're not done yet.....

Re: asus a8v recapped but still hangs on boot

im using an fsp amacrox speedpower 500w. tested it using occt psu test on the power guzzling p4c800 i recapped and it seems fine.

yes i did remember to strip the board bare when i recapped. cmos battery, cpu and ram all removed.

cmos battery also seems fine. read 3.05v on the multimeter and the contact points on the board are fine too also reading 3.05v.

the VZ are situated near the fan headers and sound chip IC area and not anywhere near the atx connector so it shud be fine.

also i noticed that if i run memtest for a few hours, it can boot again normally without freezing in windows xp and kernel panics in ubuntu. but if i put it aside for several days and not use it, it starts to boot freeze/kernel panic again and i have to run memtest again to get it to boot right.

so it shud be a sign of badcaps ya? it heats up during memtest and the esr decreases so it boots fine again. is my logic right?

the only thing left is to source for 8mm 16v caps. cant find any with suitable dimensions at my place and i cant order anything online. everyone seems to only stock 10mm caps for 16v and higher.

            8mm 16v 1000uf here
            https://www.badcaps.net/store/produc...roducts_id=173
but for only 4 would be a bit expensive post-wise.

Nintendo Switch Oled HEG-001: Second-Stage Boot Failure
              by privato89
              Hello everyone,

I'm facing an issue with a HEG-001 motherboard that is unable to complete the Second-Stage Boot. I'd like to start directly with my conclusion, which is the decision to replace the MAX77621AEWI chip, and understand if it could be a correct evaluation.

Before I dive into the process that led me to this decision, I want to mention that I have a fully equipped lab where I can perform any kind of tests.

              Let's begin:

Following some guides online, I tried to understand how the Boot phase of the Nintendo Switch works, and what are the...

Xiaomi router freezes at boot after re-capping
              by hinisa
I'm using Xiaomi Router 4A gigabit edition as wireless repeater. It worked fine for 2 years or so, but last week, wireless started to disappear.

When I unplug/replug the power, it was working fine for a day/half a day or so until it freezes again.

After testing with different power supply adapters and concluding it wasn't the issue I finally opened the case and this was the situation:

Anyway I proceed to clean up the mess and replace all caps but unfortunately it made the situation worse. Now router can't even boot, either it freezes during...

Samsung un82ru88000f - Boot loop sort of but can correct with taping of LVDS ribbon
              by NolesFan
Hello all... TV started boot looping. Opened the back panel and tried to isolate the problem. Just PSB no boot loop. PSB and MB no boot loop. Plug in the LVDS from panel to MB and boot looping starts up. It doesnt matter of order that I plug the LVDS ribbons back in, only 1 and no boot loop but as soon as 2nd one plugs in boot looping. I then noticed a flicker on the screen when I was closing the clip on the harness to the LVDS. Shut the lights off so I can see better, and I noticed as i slowly close it, I will get a picture, but as soon as it clips in, I lose picture and booting happens. So I...
