Any idea what is wrong with my Dell 2408?

    Hi,

can anyone explain what could be causing the problems you can see on the attached picture? I get that weird lines and stripes - but if I attach the TFT to my PC I can see the normal output but with the defects you can see on the picture overlayed. The 3 brighter vertical areas are flickering heavily, the darker problematic areas in the upper half consist of red, green and blue lines but strange enough, the black areas in the bottom half are completely fine.

I checked the innards of the TFT but couldn't see anything unusual... any idea?

    Thanks,
    momo

Did you just turn it on one day and it was like this ?

First idea would be to remove clean and reconnect all removable cables including the one between the main board and the panel. If you move that while the panel is on
    does the pattern change?

Thanks for the fast reply! I don't know how that happened. I got this TFT from eBay with only the power LED going green when pushed, so I thought the power supply failed. I then opened it and found fuse 001 (inverter board) missing. I soldered in a new one and now it powers on but obviously that wasn't the only problem...

I tried removing and reconnecting the cables, but that didn't help. If I move the cables when powered on the pattern doesn't change.

Its beginning to look like a bad panel

We can sometimes help a lot more if you please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back (in the same orientation) and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

It will be useful if you can say = a bit about yourself - skills tools etc.

Well, I took some pictures of the boards. Any chance, the problem is caused by the signal board or does it really look like a damaged panel? I've never seen such a pattern before...

          Thanks,

To answer my own question: The problem was a defective panel driver chip. I ordered a replacement board at BuyQual and that worked like a charm.

Excellent thank you for the update!
But may I ask how you went about determining the fault?

Re: Any idea what is wrong with my Dell 2408?

Well, to be true, I kind of guessed :-) I simply didn't believe a panel itself can be break in such a way and since the main/signal board was still able to get an "image" out of whatever input I attached and the power supply board obviously worked (and a defective panel driver seemed to make sense), I simply ordered a replacement for the remaining board and that did the trick.

                Cheers,

Hello Momo and all .... need some help here.
My 2408WFPb also displayed the same problem patterns.
Can you clarify which board you have replaced as I am not sure where the panel driver chip you mentioned is located.
Any chance it is the T-Con board that you have replaced??
                  Thanks for helping.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
                    by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Dell 2408 - No OSD or input menu
                    by Aezakmi
                    Hello,

A few days ago my Dell 2408 has stopped to working without any noticeable sign.
It can be power on, power light stays green, backlight works but there is no OSD, menu input, Dell logo etc. It happens if there is some input source connected or not.
I disassembled the case but I didn't see any failures on the board. The only element that looked suspicious was L6561 - there was some brown dirt under it. So I replaced this IC but it changed nothing.

What else should I checked or is this repair even possible/worthwhile?

                    Thank you for your c...

                    by F R 2568
                    Hello all,

this is my first post, so if I make mistakes please do not hesitate to point them out, thank you in advance.

I got a Dell Latitude 5420 (Service Tag: 7RFM6D3, Motherboard: GDF40 LA-491P Rev.: 2.0 (A01)) which does not start and I want to repair it. These are the symptoms:

If the laptop is only connected to the AC adapter (battery removed):

When I press the power button, the keyboard backlight and the display backlight are turning on. Caps key light is lightning, but key does not respond to pressing it.

                    The power/battery...

                    Looking for Dell Latitude 5520 / 5530 / 5540 RJ45 network connector replacement
                    by diamon
I have a Dell Latitude 5530 with a damaged RJ45 network connector. See the attached pictures.

Have already searched on Farnell / Aliexpress / Ebay and had contact with several suppliers on Aliexpress and Ebay, but they cannot deliver this connector.
Is there someone inside the EU, who has these connector(s) or perhaps defective motherboard(s) for these laptop models I have mentioned in the topic title.
