I'm a idiot and this videocard might not be worth it

I was installing windows on a machine I was going to give to my bro, kept freezing on S3 Resume. Same with linux!

The problem? Video card had bad caps as I noticed later with closer inspection. The machine is gone now but I do have the video card and I'm considering replacing the caps with some ripped from a PSU I have laying around.

Worth it or not? It's 256mb of ram ATI card, only AGP, or if you're in Canada and willing to pay $10 + S&H I'l send you it in a nice bubble wrap package untouched.

Its a good old AGP card.

That looks like a Geforce 2 or Geforce 4 MX.

If its 256M, then it's probably an FX5200, probably worth recapping, but your PSU caps may not work, their ESR will be far too high to be a replacement for the caps in there. I'd say get yourself a few of these (https://www.badcaps.net/store/produc...roducts_id=169)
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

                Don't have money :|

I did just notice a cap is bulging on my spare p4 mobo (just one) and in my tiny psu one started to leak. All but the psu's cap are the exact same rating... Even on the good video card!

So I'm thinking scrap a video card / psu / mobo to save the others. If I scrap the mobo I'l have a p4 1.6~ ghz CPU to sell...

Still this is a gigabyte mobo and isn't worth my time considering I have 2 p3s 2 more p4's a PPC 3~ athlons 4 celerons a P2 and a few ARM based devices

Dead on. I'm going to scrap a motherboard to save the video card I guess. So anyone want a p4?

Re: I'm a idiot and this videocard might not be worth it

Sorry for a triple post but great news! The motherboard has all the caps the videocard needs and the ones that the PSU needs. The motherboard is being scrapped.

                    -edit-

instead of quad post i decided to edit this one, the p3 mobo has a bunch of slightly bulging caps. So il scrap it save the video card and save the other mobo if I have enough caps left over, after il load a XP box up with the hardware and stress the video card to make sure its stable
