    Nichicon HM's or Rubycon ZLH's

    Hey everyone:

I am planning to recap my Shuttle FG31 motherboard (picture) that has recently start to bulge. I picked up a bunch of Nichicon HN's from Newark and for the 8x 1000uf 6.3/10v 8mm cap listed on the replacement kit here I picked up some Rubycon ZLH's because they were in stock for that size and spec.

I checked the ZLH's specs just now and found that it had almost twice the ESR as the HM's which have now come in stock (still not HN stock).

Should I order the HM's or stick with the ZLH's? Any advice would be much appreciated.

The ESR of a ZLH would be a bit high for motherboard use IMO. HN or HM would be fine.

Thanks! I'll go ahead and order the HM's then.

Re: Nichicon HM's or Rubycon ZLH's

Upon further inspection, the original OST RLP's on the board have specs that are already worse than the ZLH's

        RLP, 0.11ohm,730mA
        ZLH, 0.045ohm, 1250mA
        HM, 0.018ohm, 1870mA.

So it would seem that the ZLH's should be fine to use (unless the board designers totally spec'd the board wrong). Going to try to use a few of the ZLH's before my HM's come in and see if there are any issues. Wish me luck!

If the ZLHs are better than the original caps, they will be fine.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Recapped the whole board over the weekend with the HN's for the OST RLX's and ZLH's for the RLP's. Board is working great and holding an overclocking on my E7200 as well. Thanks for all your help everyone!
