    Noob-first recap

hello all.......just recapped this Biostar with some "Pannys". Wouldn't post on the first try cold....hadda hit the reset button for it to post....fires up first time everytime now Son got it along with several other parts/boards, including a DFI that was stone cold dead....we replaced one bulging cap on it with a "Ruby" i robbed off an Asus? with a burnt USB port....shoulda saw his face when it booted after one lil old cap was replaced....thing was...i made him dig it outa the trash can after i stumbled across this forum....thanks for all the good info here guys....we resurected 2 boards so far! As far as the Biostar goes...been running it for 4 days now....passed Memtest86+ ,OCCT and CPU Burn-in. Seems rock solid. PS: the Biostar HAD G.Luxons.

        Re: Noob-first recap

Biostar is under-rated in quality - mainly because they use G-Luxons and similar crap. Recap them, and they turn out to be first-rate, rock-solid boards (I've re-capped two Biostars successfully with no issues).

thank you for the welcome willa. I read your "lurkers" thread and figured i'd register since i've been lurking here the past few weeks. As far as the job on the recap....some of em have the "mean lean" to em.....didnt realize that till we had a few soldered in already LOL....musta been that protruding "cork" sticking out of the end...and my sons nimble fingers. (gotta blame someone else ya know) guru...if you look close at the "before" pic you'll see everyone of the 2200uf caps are bulging and/or leaking , and the only symptom i could tell it had was the "no post" on the first boot up cold. It seemed to work fine otherwise for the short period of time we had it running before the recap.....hopefully it'll take a lickin and keep on tickin By the way....i'ts still doing fine so far, and i'm using it to post this now. I did notice one peculiar thing this morning as i was going to power it up though.......when i turned on the switch for the UPS the computer booted up without my pressing the power button on the computer itself....any thoughts???

            Bios reset should fix it.

There is an option in the BIOS "power on with AC restored" or something like that...

I.e. if you get a blackout the machine restarts when power comes back, good for servers for example... It might also have the option "former status" that means if the computer was turned off during the blackout it will not start, but if it was on it will start again ;-)

thank you markiemrboo...much appreciated. Per Hansson , i checked that BIOS setting since your post, it's set to stay off after a power outage, but thank you for the suggestion. Spacedye69 ,it looks like I'll be trying that next.
