    Seeking advice - Marcon or Hitano

    Hi,
    I am new here and it is a pleasure to be a part of your forum.

    I have two blown caps near the CPU of my Soyo SY-6BA + 100.

    It is a video editing computer so it runs many long hours. It won't post. PSU is good, CPU good. No beeps. Everything spins up, etc.

    I have two different capacitors I can install, but I cannot find out anything about one of them.

    The one with posted specs is the Hitano 8mm 1000 uf /10 v cap number 9735A. I have searched the forum and read mixed reviews on these. I have a bunch of them.

    The other one is a Marcon 13mm 1000 uf/10v cap number CE-MD. I can't find anything out about them except that they are now a part of United Chemi-Con. I actually used two of these to repair a Soyo SY-6BA + IV a few years ago and the board has been running fine ever since. I don't know if they are low-ESR or not.
    The 6BA+IV wasn't as critical a computer as the video editing computer so I wanted to ask before I went ahead and used the Marcons. With reasonable care they will fit. I do need to be up and running soon.


    Recommendations?

    Further specs -

    The Hitano number (9735A) doesn't show up on the Hitano website and I am not really sure which Hitano I have. The dimensions are 8mm diameter x 11 mm long and they are black. Heat rating is 105 degrees C and is says VENT on it. They are a little wierd because the leads are both the same length and are really short (around 4mm long). They will have to be soldered from the PCB side of the board. The Neg lead IS marked though.

    The Marcon CE-MD is Blue and is 13mm Diameter x 23mm long. Heat rating is 85 degrees C and it has a rating of 1 SB. Normal long leads on them.

      Sorry, the Hitano is 8mm x 14.5 mm long (not 11mm long).

        OK,
        The Hitano caps are SNAP IN Terminal Type, but they must be a discontinued model because none of the three listed here match in voltage or size.

          i have no experience with either of them.

          we can only recommend to use known reliable types, especially with mission critical systems. anything else, you are on your own.

          Where to buy capacitors / Recommended types

          isnt video encoding somewhat cpu intensive. you could pick up a budget current system which would be more than quite faster. otherwise watch the for sale section of this site.

          welcome anyway. anyone with a soldering iron in their hand is most welcome indeed.

            On the Hitano, "9735A" is probably the date code - 35th week of 1997. Snap-in caps aren't low impedance parts per se, but usually are fairly low impedance, and have fairly high ripple current ratings.

            Marcon became part of UCC in the early 90s or so, so that Marcon cap is probably 10 or more years old. Also, since it is rated for 85C it probably is a general purpose or low-leakage current part rather than a low ESR, high ripple current part (which are normally rated for 105C).

              Thanks to both of you for the knowledge and advice. Despite the fact that the Marcon caps have worked in the nearly identical 6BA+IV board for three years and the Hitano caps "may" work I think the safest bet for my 6BA+100 editing computer would be to order some of the low-ESR recommended caps like the Panasonic FC/FM or the like.

                  Sorry for the confusion, but the caps I was referring to are caps I have had in my electronics parts inventory for a long time. They could easily be that old.

                    Just wanted to let you know that the Panasonic FM caps came today. Replaced the two blown Wendell caps and I am back up and editing Act II right now.
