    New MOBO

Hi again Guys well am here trying to find out and hopefully you guys can help me out. i hope is a little step am missing. i just replaced my MOBO on a emachines t1840 box nexgem. my thing is i had plugged eveything in the right place looking at the guide but the damn pc still wont come on. come to find out the light that would always stay on with past MOBO was the HDD light which now i can see the fan in the MOBO running. and hard disk making some part of the noise it makes at start up but no pic in the monitor. i bought a mach speed micro atx board from tigerdirect link http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=M450-1020
well i tought even the hard disk was bad and i place it on this pc (HP) and is fine even tried using the harddisk on this pc on the emachines box. any body has anyideas on what am i doing wrong? do i need to adjust the jumper on the back of the hard disk or any other one in the board. i even tried putting in the memory from this pc thinking maybe the ram went bad is a 512 pc2100 266. even took the ram from the (HP) pc 2700 at 333 i believe same results. the board states that 266/333/400 ram is supported so do you guys have any ideas on what can i do to fix this. thanks in advanced

    Re: New MOBO

are you plugging the cable into the agp card or the onboard? try the onboard first.

forget about the hard disk for the time being, try to get video with no hard disk. the ram should be fine, you should get video even if it is bad. reseat your ram though. is your speaker connected properly so you can hear the post beeps? what beeps do you hear.

        Re: New MOBO

you have both power plugs connected to the board right?

do a cmos jumper reset (take the power off the board before you do that)

if your psu is ok, your monitor ok, ram ok, award bios on a current board like that should have no issue really. reseat your cpu, ram, check cpu fan working.

        if no joy then rma

i know monitor is working i swap it from this pc to the other. ram was good checked the hard disk with HP Pc is ok. reseat the cpu you mean checking if is placed right correct?. if so already did that and even did the cmos clear in their site it says unplug pc swap pins for ten sec it even says remove IDE's the swap back and plug pc again. this emachines crap is starting to get on my nerves lol.if this board is bad i think i can just take it to the store to get another 1. only thing i havent meesd with is the audio jumpers in the back. since all my cables fit in place and looking at the manual i havent played with those settings. is that something i should mess with?

i dont know who mach speed is but yes i integrate a lot of intel boards and apart from the HN HM capacitors problem which i think is past they all used good caps and were very stable boards. no overclock though (5% burn in only i recall). my main comp is an intel d875pbzlk revision 206 which has served me well for several years. i do recommend yes. that intel board is a good price.

make sure you plugged in BOTH the atx power and the 4 pin +12 vrm power.
                    if no go clear cmos.
if still no go pull it out and fire it up outside the case.
if that old board with the hdd light was a imperial g series your cpu may have been destroyed.
they can fail in a way that has everything running in standby but the fans.cooks the cpu.
ditch the bestec psu as they are often the root cause of these failures.

good advice from KC8, imho you should get post even with shit. your cpu is toast? check in another board to confirm. ugh ditch the crap psu and get a fortron.

if toast you can get a nice cheap celery otherwise maybe you want to ditch the ram and go 775.

intel board 59.99 + celery 2.93 39.99 is a pretty good budget system base imho.

Great news is that i got the damn thing to fire up and am on the pc right now. willawake dont feel bad hell i just learn a lot about this. and yes it was the cpu i guess it fried before i replaced the caps in the board who knows. this is what i did put the other cpu Form the HP which is a celeron either 2.59 or 2.60 can't remember and sawped it to the other pc the emachines with fan and all. since i noticed that the gell on top is alomost gone on the old celeron which i think is bad. well tried different things new cpu with same fan from hp and boom. fired right up this MOFO lol. then i even put the emachines fan on top and it was working fine also. i went and put the old cpu with the HP Fan reason beaing that HP Fan Has more of the jelly thinggy. and mothing even tried it on the HP p[c with is now resting since i took of the cpu from it. well i just put the driver for ethernet and am online but for somereason the damn sound wont come on. i have the cd that came with board it says that the drivewrs are good but maybe they are outta date. you guys have been great with all the help and hell i just learned that this aint so hard or bad to do afterall. even phoned MS to regain my OS woohoo. now let find out why the hell i got no sound lol. ama try looking for latest driver for this board even if i have the cd. what do you guys think now. thanks in advance and kc8 you hit the nail right on the head man thanks a milion to all.

You mentioned the jelly thing on the fan. I hope you have a full understanding that there must be a very good thermal contact between the top of the CPU and the base of the heat sink. No air pockets. Did you make sure the heat sink compound was evenly spread before installing the heat sink? Usually it is best to remove the old compound make sure all surfaces are clean and then apply new compound. All this will help the CPU to run as cool as possible.

Re the sound. Have you checked the system bios to make sure the sound is enabled? This assumes that you have onboard sound.

sound should be enabled in bios by default, check again though. look in the device manager to see if the driver has problem. check also for dumb things like you didnt plug the speakers into the green socket and check the volume is good.

you can get any drivers you need from the intel site for that board.

speakers are plugged and even asked the tech at tiger he told me that on the fromt panel jumpers there should be only 2 on . there's a pin missing on one side so he told me on each side from it set a jumper looking at the diagram from mobo it says the same. also inserted the cd in board at it said that the drivers were not installed so i hit install. i remeber when i restored the HP it was the same and all i did was dowloaded the driver for the AC97 and worked fine afterwards. maybe it helps if i was to connect the mic plug and headphones. maybe thats why but am not sure where they go since the plugs are not indenticall. usb's are fine same plug's but the mic and headphone got me breaking my head. i appriciate all the help you guys are giving me. and pardon my ignorance about all this am new to this. hopefully ill get it soon thanks and if you guys think that not having the mic and headphones plugs connected to board is the issue am not sure how to set that right.

You mention front panel connections for sound. Maybe they are not connected. Are there any sound connectors at the back panel. Green for speaker, Pink\red for Microphone. If you have rear connectors try those first.

Did you get and install all the motherboard drivers for sound and video?

                                        Re: New MOBO

when you have the two jumpers on the front panel audio block (pins 5+6) and (9+10) this makes the the rear audio connectors work. If you want to use the front panel connectors you remove the jumpers and connect right channel to (5+6) and left to (9+10) on the jumper block.

i would just leave the 2 jumpers on, connect your speaker or headphones to the rear green connector and try to make that work first.

check in the bios to see if audio enabled

Onboard audio is disabled in the BIOS
The BIOS Setup program is accessed by pressing the <F2> key after the Power-On Self-Test (POST) memory test begins and before the operating system boot begins. Go to the Advanced > Peripheral Configuration menu to make sure onboard audio is enabled.
check to see if driver software installed

Step 1. Go to Start\Settings\Control Panel.
Step 2. Select [Add/Remove Programs] icon.
Step 3. Check if "Realtek AC'97 Audio" is present
check in device manager to see if driver installed and if there are problems. tell us what you see there.
