    Apple Macbook A1707 Hard disk

    Hi

I've an Apple macbook A1707 with Hdd defect.

This product don't work with a normal Hard disk, but the hard disk it's a BGA component on the logic board.

    My question is:
Can i exchange the hard disk, by desolder the bga Hard disk and replacing this?

Can i replace with a different one (es 500 gb instead of 250 gb)

This Macbook has T1 security check.

    Thanks and best regards

    Luca

The HDD connector on this model is custom by Apple.

However, there are a number of replacement 3rd party SSDs you can buy on Aliexpress / Ebay / Amazon.

One suggestion is to buy just the PCB for the SSD that allows you to use other but normal SSD inside this unit.

This may be the cleanest and most practical way to have a working SSD on this logic board. Otherwise, you will have to reverse engineer how the SSD mapping works for the logic board. From our very brief review, it is a normal PCIe slot but as noted, Apple had a custom connector made. I believe there are many PCB kits that will interface with the A1707 SSD connector and you can install many other M.2 SSDs inside the PCB.

      A1707 != a1708

IIRC, the A1707 is just a larger version of the A1706. Only the A1708 is upgradeable.

The A1706/A1707 have the lifeboat connector which allows you to attach the flash storage to another MAC (via the lifeboat adaptor). This connector disengages the internal SSD from the rest of the system so make sure its ok before blaming the flash.

It should be possible to exchange the storage with T1. Apple did away with the lifeboat connector as the T2 encryption made it impossible to connect to another system directly.

People going off topic here The question was about unsoldering nand from motherboard and then soldering in a larger nand from a donor for example. Will it work?

          AFAIK it works fine.

A1707 it's a Macbook without Hard disk SSD, the hard disk it's a BGA chip on the motherboard.

So can i exchange this chip with the same or with another one?
