    X-tec ATX-500WB+P4 - popped SAPCON

Heard a sort of snap noise while testing an X-tec ATX-500WB+P4, even though computer kept going

Switched it off as fast as I could, and heard something rattling when I shook the power supply

Looked inside to find one of its SAPCON caps had popped its canister, which was the thing rattling - even though the SAPCON's sleeve remained in place

So overall it felt like a squishy capacitor, albeit one without a top cover

On the right is the second SAPCON that I replaced

Wow! I've never seen anything like it. I've seen the can fly off, but not while still leaving the sleeve with the capacitor's innards inside it.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Very unlikely, but this is an exception.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

              AMAZING!

If only you had a high speed camera inside the power supply to film this .

Macbook Pro A1707 - Dead - Battery 'popped'
                by AdrenalinTL
                Hi Peeps.

Just a quick question please as I am by no means an Apple fundi at all.

Can a 'popped' battery cause the Macbook to be completely dead? Client said the battery definitely popped. It doesn't look swelled or anything but it doesn't switch on at all. No lights, no fans, nothing.

Also, using a 85W original Apple charger. That is working for sure. Does it need more wattage?

Don't want to go buy a battery for no reason.

Client is adamant is worked before the battery popped and I can't see any damage what so ever on the board...

Fake Nichicon capacitors with almost-perfect sleeve?
                by Hitto
Fake Nichicon capacitors with an almost-perfect sleeve?

Same font, perfect logo, same size of the sleeve. The air vent looks okay. The diameter of the capacitors is correct per datasheet.

It truly looks like the real thing.
I doubt that you would distinguish it from a genuine one.. if it wasn't for the bung.

Shall we be afraid, at this point, that even the bung can be replicated?...

LG 65lb7100 Popped backlight broken SMPS
                by diablo9987
TLDR; Single backlight LED popped no more power from Powersupply.

Hi I tried to keep the title short but will explained what happened here.

My 65lb7100 had a bad backlight led which was causing the TV to turn the backlight off. I took apart the TV to get to the backlights I powered it with the power supply to see if I can spot the LED. Then when I was powering each strip 1 by 1 I eventually got to which I assume was the bad led but it popped/burned and the lights shut off and i was unable to get anymore power from the supply.

                I don't have enough...

                Samsung Plasma PS50A457P1D Rattling Noise
                by mikay786
Got this TV for free, went from one sister to the other who gave it to me as was too big for their living room. Brother in law said it had issues, he says when you turn the volume up full to maximum it makes a rattling noise, distorted sound and apparently the image distorts or gets lines too.

Ive been able to replicate the vibrating noise, when turned up there's a rattling noise.

No problems on the image side yet that i can see but will leave for further testing to give it the all clear.

Anyone had any experience with the rattling noise?

                Not...

                Capacitor sleeve shrinkage?
                by John843883
As the title suggests I've come across a capacitor where the sleeve appears to have shrunk and retreated up the side of the capacitor body.

Anyone know what the causes of this sort of thing would be? The capacitor is a Rubycon BXA 400V 2.2uF, capacitance measures fine but ESR is a bit high at 16 ohms. No signs of bulging or leaking.

I'm not trying to repair anything but I'm just curious as to what causes the sleeve to pull back like this? It came out of an old 8w cfl bulb and this capacitor caught my eye, so maybe its just heat related? I couldn't find the missing bit...
