    Gigabite FX5600XT with Evercons

My sis got this board, as attempt to make the Sims2 on her machine run a bit faster over Radeon 9000. The card history is long, but to make long story short, it served me as backup card well, when I killed my FX5700Ultra, and it even show great O/C potencial (under watercooling), but novadays I did not have any use for it, and sis like it.

However I noticed that in extra stresfull situations (like in 64k intros fr-019: poem to a horse there http://farb-rausch.de/ or Life Index (curiously not present in download section, but you can grab it there: http://ax2.old-cans.com/life_index.zip ) that the image like to freeze and then re-appear (no change to music or intro run) later. This indicate that the core have a problem. Either overheating, or undervolted on load. Quick test (decreasing O/C to stock) proved it is the second case, and quick look at the card shoved Evercon caps.

Now I already suggested them to be added to the bad caps brand, based on my experience with JetWay N2PAP Ultra board, I know what went wrong.

There are five 1500uF 6.3V Evercon caps. There are also a Sanyo 510uF 4V Oscon cap too, but only one. I heard that these are excelent, so no change. Tough I planed I used there a 560uF Pannasonic FM one, I skipped this idea.

Now what we all waiting for - the results.

The Gigabite 5600XT card is what XT mark in nVidia. Pure crap. Come with default 235/400Mhz clocks. With watercooling I manage it to unbeliable 375/535Mhz. Now the question is, what happen on passive only cooling (Zalman ZM80-HP) in fanless case, yet with exchanged caps from Evercon ones to Samxon GC ones.

Why Samxons? Because Pannasonic FM ones are too big (won't fit under the cooler, even the Samxons are very close - curiously enough - the Evercon ones are even 3mm less tall that the Samxons!)

There is another reason for it, I just recapped the whole sis mainboard with Samxons and gained excelent results, but that is for other thread I preparing to create.

Anyway, the clock results. First at all, core has to get into 355Mhz to be stable - yet this is still good, considering that the card is not watercooled anymore like it was:
    http://ax2.old-cans.com/s.php?p=wc&id=30&c=8&d=1&v=v2
(illustration pic, DangerDen Maze4 GPU block on FX5200)

Now the rams, well, they started crapping out a very little on 565Mhz now!
That is pure 30Mhz increase, just for caps exchange. Well, for stable run i backed down to 550Mhz just to be sure, but then again - the demos won't stop anymore like they used to do before and 550Mhz is still a 15Mhz increase

Very very very good, if you ask me

Of course, the card is oldie crap and nothing help it, but... The overclock
from 235/400 to 355/550 is impressive. Is not it?
    Any mainly - stable!

    Trodas,
I have been away for seven weeks and returned to see your experiences with Samxon. You have certainly shown they work well when first installed. It will be interesting to see how long they last. Have you measured the operating temperatures of the caps? This will give some indication of the life expectancy, life doubling for every 10C below 105C, provided ripple curret is within spec.

I have been running Samxon in my system for about four months now. I must say the Epox 8RDA+ motherboard is supporting the XP2500 clocked 2200Mhz ie XP 3200 very well indeed. I have had to get rid of some faulty memory that caused an occasional problem. Now using GEIL DDR 512Mb CAS 2.5 modules in the dual memory controller.

Many boards have now been recapped with Samxon locally by myself and a PC repair guy. NO PROBLEMS to date.

well trodas is not greek so it doesnt apply. yeah greeks have name day which is the same as saints day. it is really convenient because say if it is st. michaels day then you know to wish all the mikes that day "chronia polla" which means (have) many years (of life). i like that system.

                Re: Gigabite FX5600XT with Evercons

davmax - I could measure their working temp precisely with laser contactless IR thing, but not ATM. It is very cold today, only 12°C outside and raining. I wait till the temperature get very high (26 - 28°C) so we have the worst case scenario there.
BTW, they are VERY cold. ATM the hottest of them have about 38 to 42°C. Not even warm when I touch them, so, I bet they will hold far longer even in fanless case, that we will be willing to use this oldie machine
Yet it folding now (the machine) for about 9 hours straight.

willawake - thank you very much And yep, life just go on and on and on... Sad but true. I better celebrate sucess results, like the DFI LP B recap that will lead to another thing. I feeling like the board might be capable of WR in 3DMark 01... But we see. THAT is worth celebrating. Yet still we celebrate somehow, so that is why my reply took longer...

arneson - well, I did not believe in saints so I did not apply. Yet my first name is Pavel and IIRC it was one of the 12 jewish followers of Jezus Christ, yet I come to conclusion that christianity (and any religion for that matter) is the worsest thing that ever happen (or are inflicted by jews, cheese what you prefer, yet keep in mind that even this is clearly jewish thing, it was the non jews who accepted it, so...) to mankind.
So, pls, keep my thread clear of it, thanks

Galvanized - thank you! And I borrowed the "Kill it with fire!" from 4chan, where I saw it sometimes on pictures like this:

And well, you maybe only started too late? I bought my first (and used up to this date, good solid commies work, eh) soldering iron when I was 6 years old and learned to solder with him with the help of friend, as even my father can't solder yet. Yep, that was in 1981 ...
Anyone want pic of my soldering iron? After all I mainly using it for all my recap work, so...

arneson - grrrrr If you don't stop trying to infect me with this disease, I will start teaching jewish Talmud there

Gee whiz, I really do apologize for getting your grrrr up.
There was absolutely NO religious intention in my post.
I meant only to point out that my wife being Greek does not have birthday celebration.
However, I'm a bit shocked at your reference to how you prefer your bullets to bounce around inside of a human.

Hey, that was a fun only. Not need to apologize

However you got my post wrong. Entierly. I tried to say that in WW1 times was soldiers with such things shoot upon discovery of them.
                    Todays we use it.
This was mentioned as complain how the world getting more and more wrong in some cases. I could bring other cases, but - we are entierly OT there and it might hurt admin feelings too, as some prime example of violating Geneva and Haag conventions come from his country... But again, let's stop that OT and concentrate on caps
