LG Flatron L1710s no display pulsing power led

Hi, This monitor shows no display at all, but the power LED is blue and pulses off and on every 5 secs, or so. This is accompanied by a hissing sound and a click on the power board every time the power led pulses. The power to the logic board seems fine. Any ideas with this one would be appreciated.

    Regards: Andy.

This calls for the latest in high tech gear to troubleshoot. Use a sonic probe to locate the source of the hissing. Don't have a sonic probe handy? The core from a roll of paper towels or toilet paper makes a dandy substitute.

Hi Andy, I had a similar problem and from what you have described - it is a zener diode that is faulty on the power board, you can test if this is the case by either using an analogue multimeter to see if it has continuity in one direction only, if you don't have an analogue multimeter - remove it and re-assemble to test it (only for 20 seconds) no longer than this or will most likely fry the board, if it works after this test you will have to replace the zener diode with one of the same value as it is designed to work as a sort of circuit breaker also to keep the voltage polarity to one direction only, when they fail the voltage travels back and causes the board to freak out (power light blinking off and on, standby switch "clicking noise"). hope this helps.

This thread might be 24 months old, but I have a L1710s with a similar issue... when it goes into power saving mode, it stays in power saving mode. Disconnecting sometimes brings it back to responsive, otherwise it stays with a blinking power led no matter if we send a signal.

I am all for a recap job, but prefer understanding what's wrong before pulling out components. Right now all the caps seems to be just fine; is that zener story just some fairytale? How do we know for sure if its wrong and what diode are we talking about anyway?

@djkyle65: better post the pictures of your board so we see what is going on with it.
