• Another victim of the dreaded HP 250 G6 bios update

Hi everyone,

I'm the latest one to join the ever growing group of thousands of people screwed by the horrible HP bios upgrade that bricks your laptop

Anyway, I'm currently waiting for the 8 pin clamp adapter to arrive in the mail, because I'm extremely bad with soldering irons. I'm trying to reflash the eeprom without desoldering the chip.

I've taken the HDD out of the laptop, and I've inspected the HP folder in the EFI system partition. I've found a log file that hilariously says that everything went perfectly fine! (hahahah, YEAH, SURE!) and a "reconstructed"...

• HP Omen 17t-w200 WHAE error when charger connected

Hi Everyone,
I faced a strange issue of my friends laptop.
You might have an idea because I'm out of my deept here.
The laptop starts every time no problem.
- When The original 230W charger is plugged in (with or without the battery same) and I start installing windows or start a preinstalled windows, then WHEA error happens or black screen freeze.
- When I start laptop with only battery then windows installer start fine, install goes nice and fast. After installation I have to disable the nvidia 1070 and start windows this way and then enable the Nvidia 1070...

• Laptop HP Pavilion - no screen dimming

Hi. My HP Pavilion laptop model 15-cs2076nw S/N# 5CD9255TYK can't dim or brighten the screen. There's no such function in Windows 10 and 11. The graphics are Intel UHD 620. It works without a problem under Kubuntu Linux. I've tried a dozen different drivers but none of them work. Do you have any ideas what to do?

• I hate to say it, but I just cannot recommend either Windows 10 or 11 for old people. It's a tricky OS (yes I grouped both into singular thing, because they are) and there way too many things "going on" or try to regularly steal your focus from whatever you are doing. You can quiet it down a bit if you take the time to go through every single setting to disable everything that your mother may not have a use for (read: this may take you upwards of a few hours... which is exactly why I HATE setting up Win10/11). Alternatively, you could use something like Tiny 10 or Tiny 11 - a stripped-down...

• HP compaq NC6400, LA-2952P, white screen

good morning

I've had this laptop sitting at home for many years with this defect, and now I have some free time and I'd like to fix it.

9 years ago I tried to sell it to a woman, she kept it at her house for a few days and then returned it to me broken (hinge). I bought the hinge and a new flat, thinking the problem was in the flat, and it wasn't...

The screen connector part is in the photo below, I measured the voltages with a simple multimeter and the measurements were as follows:

1: 1,3V
2: 1,2V
4: 1,3V
5: 1,3V...

• Beginner's guidelines

You have a laptop that does not power on, powers on but shows no image, crashes, etc… You want to fix it but you don't know where to start.

There are 2 situations:

You just want your laptop fixed
You want to learn about fixing laptops
Sorry, but if you're in situation number 1, we recommend you to use the services of a trustworthy professional repair shop.
Unfortunately, if you're not serious about learning, you will waste your time and money, and you will make us waste our time as well.

If you are in situation number 2, then...

• Hello World.

I am just joining the forum, and slightly confused about where to type my introduction as it is not really a "Reply" I like fiddling with vintage Computers more than modern ones, the proper ones with IC sockets and huge exploding Tantalums. I have never tried replacing SMD devices but have recently been given an Apple A1181 it seems to be poorly and will not switch on. I am in the process of obtaining a 16.5V 60W Magsafe 1 psu. and I was looking for a Schematic for it when I came across this forum. Now I am bit usless at these things and usually type things...

There are 10 older bios versions at HP support, try some of those. You can extract them yourself.

• mon2., Want to verify that this model Lenovo motherboard takes PWR_DCBATOUT as 13.18V & throughout the motherboard on this rail???? The INPUT to the first MOSFET PU4403 is 19v... But once the voltage is out from this MOSEFT, there is voltage drops to 13.18V & on this inductor PL4401 it even drops to 10.90v. The output of the 2nd MOSFET PU4405 is 13.18V ... Similar to the Dell & Hp newer motherboard I guess!!! The 3.3V & 5V comes on fine in the start & stays for a whiile, then fluctuates, & no voltage on these 2 output inductors. 3D3V_S0 is not present at all. Thanks de...

• HP Pavillon x360 14-ba174nz no image no backlight, LCD_VCC low (2.25V)

Hi everyone!

First post on here so do tell me if i'm doing anything wrong. I have a laptop that came in with a broken hinge, but a healthy LCD. We replaced the LCD rear cover and now we do not get an image on the LCD anymore, though we get one via HDMI. There is sadly no schematic or boardview available for this motherboard (Bucks U42 DIS 17817-1) as far as i can tell, but I was able to identify which of the important pins on the LCD eDP connector (30 pin 2...

• Seasonic B12 BC-550 – recapped

Let's start the recap with hall-of-shame -worthy pictures of the Asia'X capacitors.

Ah, lovely!
Except for the two 50V 220 uF ones, all the other ones were completely out of spec, as seen above. Even the -12V rail cap, which is sitting behind a linear regulator (LM7912) and does not see any stress or heat at all, still managed to fail on its own. I think that alone speaks volumes about the quality (or lack thereof) of Asia'X caps (particularly the TMX series.) Seasonic, if you are reading these, PLEASE drop

- work laptop, Thinkpad T440p - Windows 11 Enterprise, in tandem with a recently "restored" HP dv6-3114sl (HD5470/i3 1st gen)
- main retro laptop - Latitude C810 - Windows XP Pro SP3 (you'd be surprised how snappy XP SP3 runs on a Tualatin w/ 512MB of RAM!)
- secondary retro - Latitude C610 - 2K SP4
- retro gaming - custom build w/ Athlon 700MHz SLOT A and recapped DFI AK70 - 98SE (most solid build I've had in a long time. This thing is tough as nails.)

• Did you get that serial number from the base cover sticker, it`s not recognised at HP support it should be 10 characters. The serial number in your bios is CND150BKN0 ,so the base cover is a different one or it has been flashed with a different bios.

The SN in this one is CND150BKDH . Where is the original bios ? ...

• Upgrading XP to Windows 10 in 2025 - HP Pavilion HP-A550Y

I am contemplating upgrading an old HP Pavilion HP-A550Y from Windows XP to WIndows 10. This machine has a 3 GHz Pentium 4 "Prescott" processor. I have some additional RAM to add. Have plenty of HDD space. I have several questions on how to best proceed at this late (for Windows 10, anyway) date.

Where is a good place to get a copy of Windows 10 and the activation key? Would I use 32 bit or would I use 64 bit version? Is it possible to do a fresh installation of Windows 10 these days and not an upgrade? If upgrading, is it possible to go from XP to 10 directly and without...
