Hello to this new world here.
i am Michael I am german engineer.
57 years old now still with a great passion for hacking, modding and experimenting the possibilities of every computer i get in my fingers since i am 16..
My education was mostly in the electronic sector. Due to this i am bound to the hardware sector of my mentioned topics above.
Over the years and my work in a compiter company, i started focusing to DELL machnes and their known "specialities".
While configuring and later also (try) repairing them, often i had to find out that they are unnecessarily restriced in many ways, even though the hardware would allow much more.
In the first place in my opinion DELL machines are the kind of most reliable and durable computers i have seen.
So my main focus changed to find a way around those political restrictions, mainly based in the BIOS.
I always try to find a way to modifiy this machines to get their full hardware based capabilities.
Also i am experimenting on a homelab base a lot in extending simple used and old Optiplex machines to fully usefull "micro-servers" using cheap hardware like PCI-switch cards and M.2-adapters.
E.g.
10 NVMEs working in a 5050/70 SFF series instead of an useless DVD and a 3.5 inch HDD
or
4 NVMEs in a 7080/7090 micro together with additional 1x10GBe and 2x1GBe network
..
those are my current "projects"
the fact that all my ideas do highly require the Intel-AMT/vPro features to be active foe making the "server" idea 100% senseful, lead me here.
as over the years i found it has been done more and more difficult to "reactivate" this by dell.
because i am not that good in the software sector at all, now i am seeking help here. for my opinion i had enough failed attempts now trying myself.
as this forum is the greatest about the people sharing their great knowledge i have seen so far, i want to be part of it.
sharing my experiences on the experimental sector with PCI-E components or other things i found out about DELL machines.
so lets strart right here to clarify one of the greatest myths..
its around the DELL precision T7910
YES - it DOES support PCI-E bifurcation !
and it is able to do this on every single x16 slot no matter which you use
even though you will find no option to setup this in the BIOS
even though DELL itself is denying this fact many times.. if you are asking the support.
despite all this i have this machne running here with 8 NVMEs on 2 PCI-E x16 slots.. with simple and supercheap adapter cards and cables SFF8654/8i to 2x OCUlink/4iLast edited by MMH3; 03-14-2025, 09:52 PM.Comment

Hello world my name is Bob. The meat machine coming for everything and anything there is to learn here. Looking for those who've acquired a collection of schematics. No big deal. Fixing a few laptops here and there for some side money.
Not fond of sharing anything being the age of AI will scrape anything and everything from you down to timings of keystrokes. Stay simple and hasty. I like to keep my things private and fun, leave the phones out, live a man's life.
No doubt technology is a blast. No denying it's usefulness so here I am, learning and obsessed, leaving time for the days ahead.
Rookie tech repairman for all intents and purposes.
Thanks.Comment
