                      Hi, I am new here

I'm trying to find information to fix my own laptop. I am a software engineer and although I mostly deal with codes, I have learned electronic from my father and at least know some to some little extent about electronic components. I wish to find the information I am looking for here, thank you!

                                    Hello everyone!

I'm Nigel, a self-employed computer technician with a passion (some might say obsession) for bringing dead laptops back to life. While others replace motherboards, I prefer to dive deep, hunting down faulty capacitors, shorted MOSFET's, and rogue power rails like a detective on a tech crime scene.

Whether it's a no-power issue, liquid damage, or a BIOS gone rogue, I specialize in component-level repairs. Micro-soldering? Done it. BGA rework? Bring it on. Staring at schematics until my eyes blur? Occupational hazard.

I joined this forum to share knowledge, trade war stories, and hopefully learn a few new tricks.

Hi, started off in life as a clockmaker trainee so very practical biased. went on a basic training course for IT and mended family and friends stuff since. been doing clocks (NO you cannot overclock/wind a clock, LOL) as a main job but kept slowly learning computers as i go. Now retired, I'm back and interested in learning more.

Hey all, I'm Sid, thought I should introdue myself here too : )

Looking at the OG intro message being from 2003 gives me a laugh - the site is older than me!! (Not that it's uncommon, I was born in 05 hahaha)
I'm currently working in a computer repair shop (retail IT is an experience...) while studying Biology at university (long story, tl;dr: stuff out of my control led me to where I am now), and have recently begun learning how to do board repairs and microsoldering etc..

I've always worked on electronics, tearing apart my games console at 12 all across the dining room table and repasted it. Think i dismantled a washing machine too at one point....

I'm really enjoying learning about small-scale electronic repairs (ICs, traces, etc..) as well as being able to put it into practice now we have the proper kit at work! Honestly the more and more I do it the more I see myself wanting to work in this sort of electronic repairs/maintenance in the future as well. I guess we'll see..

Thanks all! Hope I can learn a lot from everyone here, and maybe I'll be able to help others too : D

                                          Cheers! - Sid
